Apparently it's well known that doctors receptionists are rude and grumpy but why?
I've just returned from yet another example, I can take it but I feel so sorry for old & vulnerable people, why be so abrasive it probably ruins their day??

I've encountered some wonderful receptionists actually.

My SIL used to be a practice manager and over the years she was verbally abused almost daily, physically abused on a semi regular basis (spat at, pushed) and once held hostage. She worked in a practice in a "posh" NW London suberb. It's not all one way traffic.

Love mine but wouldn't want to be them!

Hi all, I’m starting a new job as a doctors receptionist and was wondering if other doctors receptionists can advise me of their average day to day duties? I know the basic but was just wanting to gain as much information on the role as I can.. I’ve been out of work for quite some time so am a little nervous about starting work again, I just want to be prepared!! Many thanks☺️

Hi Lola44, each surgery probably works differently. In my surgery it’s answering phones to patients first thing, signposting them to an appointment with gp, minor Illness nurse, healthcare assistant etc. dealing with tasks, things passed onto us by dr to action etc. You’ll pick it up, they won’t throw you in the deep end so I should imagine it’ll be learning the computer system to start with. Good luck, it’s a very rewarding job, nice to help people always x
