To think a French campsite holiday with a crawler is a waste?

Dp & DCs want to go to a French campsite type holiday.

I think that given the youngest is a crawler and into everything it would be no holiday and would rather stay home and go on day trips?

(I'm willing to be told iabu)

We have never been on such a holiday before so it's all guess work.

Ironically I'm the only one who likes the sun. None of them like the heat or beaches.

Have you had a look at the links I posted above? I am afraid I agree with a PP. If you expect it to be a nightmare then it will be.

Staying home and just doing days out when you could go away sounds a bit crap. You wont go out because it will all seem too much bother with your baby.

Could your DH take your older DCs away on his own?

I once went on a French camping holiday with a 10 month old crawler, took one of those travel cots purely to keep him in when outside doing barbecues etc. Wouldnt have kept him in it all day long but it worked well.

We did holiday cottages with crawlers. The extra space is great when they are in bed and you want to do stuff. French campsite holidays were great at primary school. Difficult if you've had a late addition to the family who is out of sync with the other kids though.

If only we had evenings in peace! He has only just gone down now.

We never get peace til 9.30, usually more like 10.30/11. He isn't a sleepy baby.

Day trips I think would be fine cos he'll sit in the buggy if we are walking about and there's lots to see.

DP's idea is to take a gp.

Haven't had a crawler in a while but we went here a couple of years ago www.mathevies.com It's lovely and the Cosy Nook cafe has a playroom for under fives with a clear "shoes off" sign on entry. Lots of shelter around the pitches and great location. Have cabins etc if you fancy that instead. It's great.

The Atlantic coast is much cooler and less humid. Been there a few times including with a crawler and a toddler and it was great. Biscarosse and Parentis en Born.

Always went for mobile homes rather than tents, much more child friendly.

I have camped and caravaned in the UK and Europe with my DC from 1 yr onwards, and now with the DGC from under 1.
If you are worried about the heat, stick to the west coast Brittany or the Vandee. Eurocamp and the like will provide all the kit you need, the sites are extremely child friendly and stuffed with other like minded parents. Taking GPs is a good idea if you all get on, not so good if you have a MiL from hell. Your older children will love it. Oh and I wouldn't fly, the ferry trip to Brittany is part of the fun!

Of course, if you have already decided that you are going to hate it, you will.

Thst was my childhood - it was amazing. Went as a family, went with extended family (and small, crawling cousins) and honestly they were the best holidays. It was never too hot as we drove down from Scotland so stuck to brittany, Normandy etc. Better than staying at home - ideal age was 5 - 11 though as so many other kids to play with. Do it!
