To think "dapper laughs" is a vile human being?

I honestly dont understand how anyone finds him funny?

Taking the piss out of the disabled, being racist.

Some of the light hearted stuff- fine. But he just takes things too far

How an you find comedy offensive? It's comedy?

As Gervais said "If you can't joke about the most horrendous things in the world, what's the point of jokes? What's the point in having humor? Humor is to get us over terrible things.”

Comedy can draw attention to issues and make them approachable. It can satarise things, exaggerate them and send them up to make a mockery of something that deserves to be mocked.

Do you think Gervais was actually for the imprisonment when he said, "My greatest hero is Nelson Mandela. What a man. Incarcerated for 25 years, he was released in 1990 and he hasn't reoffended. I think he's going straight, which shows you prison does work."

Do you think "Never met a nice South African" was racist or was it drawing attention to issues in SA? "Why don't you have any black people working here?" We do. What do you think you wiped your feet on when you came in?" That isn't racist. It was drawing attention to the horrific racism in SA at that time.

The smart people aren't offended by jokes. They're offended by the events behind the jokes.

He's just another person being outrageous and over blown because he probably lacks any of the real talent it would take to get famous.

YANBU OP, he's as funny as a train wreck. Can't think of a single intelligent person who would think his brand of "comedy" is amusing.

He seems to appeal to the kind of person who thinks disabled children shouldn't be in the same schools as "normal" ones, so that says pretty much everything really.

It sadly doesn't take any talent to get famous.

Being outrageous and overblown doesn't equate to lack of talent.

Richard Pryor, George Carlin, Ricky Gervais, Sarah Silverman, Jim Jefferies, Louis CK, Frankie Boyle, Bill Hicks.

They used their outrageousness and while all comedians use a persona to a certain extent, these don't / didn't.

Al Murray, Dapper Laughs, Brendon Burns, Andrew Dice Clay, Chris Morris, Lenny Bruce

They absolutely exaggerate the personas as part of their act to 'enhance' it.

I'm not saying Dapper Laughs is a fantastic comedian but 'offended by comedy' people tend to be quite priggish, in my experience.

I assume this was a slightly weird dig at me as I seem to remember your name. Are you the mother from the thread with the violent son and me suggesting teachers, staff and children have a right to learn in physical safety. If it was a little jibe then perhaps it's time to move on and realise different people have different opinions. Perhaps the internet (or adulthood) isn't the place for you.

I don't know who most of those people are. Didn't know who this dapper guy was until this thread.
I'm not a fan of either Gervais or Frankie Boyle but you can't deny they have talent.
The difference between them and this guy is that they have a broad range of humour that covers all aspects of humanity.
By contrast this guy seems fixated on himself.

I'd say that he isn't fixated on himself so much as his persona and therefore people who are like that in real life.

I think you're right that he doesn't have the breadth of material that most of the names mentioned in my post do, but that's probably because he doesn't have the talent or experience. It doesn't mean that because he isn't as good as those people he's untalented and he's quite a bit less offensive than many in my list.

Most of the names I mentioned are or were, at the top of their game. Some more challenging, intelligent or socio-politically relevant (Lenny Bruce) than others (Al Murray as the pub landlord). Al Murray as himself in a very intelligent man and couldn't be further away from his landlord character.

Is this song racist? Would you see it as racist if it were made today and the issues in the country were still happening today? A genuine question.

There's a massive difference between the humour of a massive piss take (spitting image) as a lampooning method and behaving like an ignorant bastard.

Also spitting image was attempting to make political statements. It's a world away from people trying to get noticed by being shocking.

I'd be surprised if this dappy bloke gives a shiny shit about racism, sexism and the disabled.

There are many comedians that I don't find funny (for whatever reason), but I do have an issue with someone telling someone what they can or cannot joke about.

Either everything is up for being made a joke of or nothing is.

If you start censoring comedy who gets the final say in what is available? because somebody is bound to find what is left offensive.
