DH has just told me that a friend has got tickets for us to go to a race meeting. I have always wanted to go but the company isn't exactly inviting. I attendance would be me, DH, FIL, and DH's friend.

Said friend is sooooo boring. DH even admits this but says he feels sorry for him as he just split with his gf of 10 years. FIL doesn't talk much and although we get on okay it really isn't my idea of good fun.

I feel bad saying I don't want to go because of the company but it is true. If a friend of mine was joining us or anyone I could have an actual conversation with I would be itching to go. I have always wanted to go to the races but not like this. I am being silly? Would you go?

Tell them to go and enjoy themselves and have a lads day out.

I wouldn't walk around sulking and am a pretty sociable person so could muddle through the day but I don't want to just get through. It's usually a 6-7hour event with drinking and socialising either side. I won't be myself around my FIL either.
I know it sounds mean saying he is boring but DH was actually a friend of the ex and since they broke up has been trying to be nice and get him to meet up and cheer him up a bit. Hence why he accepted the invite.
I have suggested another of DH friend go.

YANBU I wouldn't go.DH and I have turned down invites because of the company. I'm not the most socable person though. When we go out without the kids, we want to have fun and not be bored because of the company. You may have always wanted to go to this but do you want your first experience marred by poor company? I wouldn't.
