To hate eBay

arghhhh why do I bother selling anything on eBay!?

Sold two pairs of shoes to one buyer, both in perfect condition and never been worn.

Buyer has been in touch today to say shoes are damaged and covered in paint..which is impossible and certainly weren't like that when I sent them out.

I've offered a full refund once I receive them back (I won't refund anything until I have them back and am able to inspect them). But this isn't good enough for the buyer.

She is clearly trying to pull a fast one. She wants some money back but wants to keep the shoes. Threatened me with eBay but as a seller I feel I have no protection at all. Can't leave negative feedback for a buyer!

What a waste of time.

Oh and a separate buyer bought a dress from me, it went for a measly £1.20 and has asked for time to pay..WTAF..!!

That's my rant for the day..!!

Has anyone had any positive experiences with eBay dealing with hard work buyers? I have a feeling she may get her money back and leave negative feedback on my 100% rating.!!!

I just refund when people try to take the piss (funny how 'lost' items never return to me despite my address being on the back of the parcels!). Have tried contacting Ebay numerous times when someone has clearly been on the scam and they just cut you off on live chat repeatedly. Total ball ache. Sadly I need the money so have to persevere and just take the occasional hit to my finances. I always send recorded delivery if the item costs over £25 as proof of postage certificates aren't worth the paper they're written on.

Up to now, she hasn't relisted the items. Proper pain in the ass!!

Not as bad as the chap who sent me abusive messages in the middle of the night and got his daughter to ring me up being abusive too..eBay dealt with him and he was no longer on eBay afterwards.

I sold Alton Towers tickets for a specific day to silly cow on eBay. I posted them recorded delivery the next day, on a Monday (tickets were for that weekend). She messaged me on Wednesday to ask where the tickets were. I checked on the Royal Mail site and they had attempted delivery the day before, and were now being held at the post office. I wrote back explaining all this and giving her the exact details of where she had to go to get them, along with the tracking number.

On Saturday, just after lunchtime, I got another arsey message from her again asking where the tickets were. By now she was screwed, she'd left it too late to go and get them. So I explained again that she should have picked them up, but she hadn't, which was out of my control.

THEN....a few days later she tries to claim her money back saying her card had been used without her authority. My PayPal account was put on lockdown, until the bank investigated. I sent all the proof I had, and PayPal actually ruled in my favour!! I couldn't believe that for once, a seller had won a dispute.

I couldn't resist sending her a smug message after that. Grrrrrr. Some people.

We learn our lessons on eBay the painful way. The most important advice I can give anyone is to always always post tracked with sufficient compensation in case it gets lost. It's all very well sending signed for but if you don't know that the maximum compensation on that is £50 you'll be licking your wounds when your £100 item goes missing! The Royal Mail website has a 'walk through' section where you can say what you're sending, how big it is, how much it's worth, whether you need a signature (always!) etc. Hermes is also good for keeping postage costs down but they only insure up to £250.
I also always add to my listings that my items are security marked. They're not - but it's one more level to make the scammers think!

Another small point I'd mention is to be careful about which countries you're prepared to post to, especially as some don't operate a tracking system which would be accepted by ebay

shopaholic999 · 12/05/2016 21:23

Good point.

Just sold another item but now I'm dreading it. I list items as accurate as I can but sometimes people expect something for nothing.

It's really put me off selling now, I hate confrontation (I know it's only via email) but I struggle with the stress Confused

in error I listed an item with the wrong brand name on, to be fair the items were the same colour but no the same details/size/brand etc. when I realised my error I cancelled the sale prior to the buyer paying for the item. 5 days later I had confirmation that the buyer had accepted the cancellation, three weeks after this I get a PayPal confirmation and as had refunded someone for something else didn't look to hard (in my defence was at work at glancing through private emails so not really paying attention) went on eBay to check address for something I had sold and saw another feedback had been left. said person two weeks post cancellations who had then paid a DAY later wrote net feedback about item not being posted Hmm I responded by refunding immediately (in this case my error as at NO POInt has this person contacted me about anything like where is it etc) and saying had asked eBay to remove it as the item had been mutually cancelled. if I hadn't cancelled the way she paid eBay would have opened an non payment case against her.

but no. I get neg feedback after several years of 100% positive as a private seller. and the beg gave the impression that I ripped off people the whole time. eBay have yet to respond!

It's utter bullshit. My DSis sold a boxset the other week, immaculate and watched once. Buyer contacts to say the dvds are scratched and 3 boxes are broken. Said the packaging was damaged but surprise surprise the packaging is in the bin...got a £15 partial refund (item was £50) and guess what the boxset is relisted for over £100. Ridiculous.

bigbuttons · 12/05/2016 22:19

I sell sporadically and I thank god that I have never had any trouble over the years. I neRly always post with my Hermes as I know it is tracked and has been delivered.

BreadPitt · 12/05/2016 23:21

Sold a purse for £40. Buyer said she never received it. I had the receipt of posting and claimed from Royal Mail only got £22 back

One of the first things sellers need to remember is tracking is for the benefit of the seller, not the buyer.
She may well have not received the purse, things do go missing. You can send something fully tracked with hermes for about £3.50.
