To hate modern 'class' photos?

Where's the sense of occasion? Why are they doing cheesy poses in socks? What exactly is wrong with the class in the school hall so you actually know where they are??

(I might be feeling sore cos they grouped my admittedly tall DD with all the shortest kids and she looks like Gargantua...)

Ooh goeasy I wonder if it's the same school! We had ours today too. Dd2 is in a group hugging a girl she hates doesn't get on with.

Forced natural, fun poses, DS1's forced photo smile not good. It's odd looking at your child sat how they never sit with a facial expression they never have. And the prices! I felt bad not buying them until the HT told me they make no money out of it.

There's no hugging going on in our picture but have you got the beauty contest line up going on? Or maybe the Rap Artists crossed arms album cover look?

We also have the servants at the feet of the teacher pose.

Totally daft. And they don't plan who goes where - putting the girls in summer dresses cross legged on the floor so their dress is either all bunched up in their lap or Vac packed across their knees.

Christ I'd be straight in there if I saw even a sniff of bad boy rapper/bikini clad babe stylee!

Who the fuck thinks that's appropriate?!

I hate them, hate them, hate them. They highlight the differences between the children. I complained to the school, as did many others and they changed it back to the old style lined up on benches, but kept the wanky slightly informal poses, so now it's a bit of a shit hybrid class photo. It's still better than the Usain Bolt pose and gangster arms we had on the modern ones.

I hate them too. And what is worse, my kids have had them taken at secondary school. If you think it looks quite cute with a bunch of 5 year olds, consider what it looks like with a bunch of 15 year olds. Shock

YANBU, I liked the line-ups far more!

Ds & his mate were posed a couple of years ago for a 'best friends' shot.

Ds is pointing at a distant, imaginary bird/plane/Superman & grinning. Mate has hand on ds's shoulder & is following his gaze looking awestruck.

It's a shame they aren't both wearing arran sweaters & underpants with piping, really. Classic 70s knitting pattern pose!

I bought it for my mum (a keen knitter). She cackled over it for a good hour & it still gives her the giggles now. Twenty quid well spent! Grin

I wouold prefer them if they could go in normal frame, but why have a huge area devtoted to other peeps dc and perhaps only 1 dc friend?

AnneElliott · 09/05/2016 19:15

Ours still do the old fashioned group picture with the teacher standing by the side.

Some of those on google look terrible! I don't think I'd be buying one of them.

I did a lot of moaning about the class photo but when I saw it, really liked it.

Only thing is all the children are really smart, but the teacher/TA were dressed casually in walking boots and trainers with the teacher in her leggings and stretchy greying vest top, though she did pop on a jacket and scarf and at least I cant see the outline of her genitals like you usually can

I don't get why anyone buys school photos, regardless of how, erm, avant garde they may be.

Anyone with an iPhone can take a better picture of their child without their grim uniform on and lunch on their tie. Total waste!

My dc have really nice primary school photos. Plain white background with head and shoulders shot. Now the oldest is at high school, his looks very 'American' with a blue rumpled background. Almost military like with his shirt, tie and blazer on. Still very nice but now doesn't go with my wall of school photos.

Oops, I was talking about individual photos.

As you were.

Yes. DD has just had a 'crazy' reception class pic done. The girls seem to be leaning on the boys, tis a bit weird.

When my DSs were in primary we lived in Canada. Those pics were fab....you know in films when you see a pic of a missing kid, all soft focus, autumn leaves , background from 1981....like that. I have a particularly fab one of DS1 with chocolate milk all around his mouth, no front teeth and a waterfall behind him.

Thing is it is quite nice to have a couple of photos of the wholes class. I look back on my 1985, and am astounded that I left the house wearing Christopher Biggins style glasses and a greasy very poor attempt at a perm and highlights......then I look at my classmates, jeez even the prettiest girl there who we were all in awe of looks like Trisha Yates.

I love ds's photo from his special needs unit, last year there were only 8 in the class and they are just sat on the sofa and beanbags, ds's friend who has left now is sat leaning into Ds and they are both beaming. It is lovely (and there are no daft poses!)

Hate these photos. Last year DD1 had to pose with her arm propped on the teachers shoulder, all matey. Dd has a fixed grin on her face and is so awkward in her body language. Awful, just awful
I work in a school and had the photographers phone up last week to confirm what style of class photos we'd like. Apparently there have been so many complaints to schools re these "Contemporary" style shots, that most have altered back to the "Traditional" with coloured background and kids in rows. Not surprised! Even they admitted the Contemporary take a lot more of their time up and cost a lot more

I much prefer the traditional photos

Hate those ridiculous class photos. We've had to put up with them for years under our old HT. Now that we have a new one, we are back to traditional ones. In the hall, everybody in uniform, teacher, TA on each side, the kids on the benches. A lot more classier.

I hate them with all the kids flopping around and having pretend fun.
I have bought DS's reception class one as there is a one form intake so they will stay as one class until they are 11. I'll enjoy looking back at how they've changed. Also some of the girls will end up joining my Brownies.

Fortunately I don't have a tutor group so don't have a gaggle of teenagers towering over me on a photo from work. Except of course they could do the height editing that they did on DS's nursery picture. It bugs me that my particularly small child and the tallest child were edited to similar heights.

Bring back benches and rows. The Mook Family know their place- front row with the rest of the shortarses!

Our school did the cheesy pose thing for a few years. As the class teacher I bloody hated it! And none of my uber-cool year 6s wanted to pose with me The staff photo was utterly cringey.

We are now back to rows on benches in the hall or outside of it's nice. >

I dont see the point if them.

I can take a decent photo of my child in their uniform myself.

Maybe if they was cheaper

Maybe if i wasnt a poor tight ass
