Sooooo.

After having stayed at home with DC, I'm ready to work.
I've got myself a part time job Dog Walking. It's been great. I enjoy it and it fits in with children.

Obvs it does not pay a lot, but that's ok for now.

But in the future, perhaps maybe, with a bit of confidence building and experience I could start my own thing?

I've been looking into what Ill need to do.
Could you help me come up with a name?

I don't trust dog walkers with puns for names or funny names.

Sorry. I'm a boring bastard.

Yeah winnetsthepoo puns are lame Grin

scarednoob · 09/05/2016 15:58

I would say a simple name that people will find on google - you can have a lovely witty pun on the website/invoices/email footer/branded t-shirts etc etc!

I like "walkies" too, unless you are planning on offering other services, such as dog sitting/taking to vet appointments etc?

sorry, too many etc's!

baffledmummy · 09/05/2016 15:58

My dream Moonlightling style dog walking company (as a front for my secret detective agency) was going to be called Snoop Dawgs.

BurstMyBubbles · 09/05/2016 15:59

Pooch Mooch? Dog Jog? Helping Hounds?

EatDickShrek · 09/05/2016 16:00

There's a van near my house called The Bone Ranger but the way it's painted when the door's open it just read The Boner xD

RabbitSaysWoof · 09/05/2016 16:01

You might be onto something Winnie, I sent my dog out with a group called Waggy Walkers that had a very cute logo and happy dog image, one day my flat mate was home when the woman come in for him and she said he ran and hid under her bed trembling. He would go off with anyone usually.

BurstMyBubbles · 09/05/2016 16:03

Canine Constitutionals. I like alliteration too much. I couldn't think of a clever name when I went self employed so just used my name.

OurBlanche · 09/05/2016 16:08

The busiest round here have quite boring names, like Blanche's Dog Walking

Don't be so funny you put people off : We Let the Dogs Out causes some amusement, but some people think it suggest they are negligent!

Never under estimate the utter humourlessness of some people Smile

thisisbloodyridiculous · 09/05/2016 16:13

OP I run my own dog walking business and have been very successful msg me if you would like any pointers Smile

CaptainCrunch · 09/05/2016 16:18

Honestly? Go with "Roll Up's Dog Walking Services". I would much rather trust my dog with someone who is willing to put their own name to their business, rather than a daft pun, amusing as many of them are (disclaimer..I'm not totally humourless).

I wouldn't use a hairdresser that had "Curl up n Dye" or a restaurant called "Beef Encounter" either.

blinkowl · 09/05/2016 16:26

"Online hits have very little to do with the business name. It's all meta tags and SEO and of course a good, clear description of the business."

That was true a few years ago but it's out of date advice now. Google has significantly changed how it ranks websites.

Google no longer looks at keywords. Not at all.

It doesn't look at the description of the business either. Google does not pay any attention to the content of that description. The description does have an indirect effect on search results as Google does take into account how many people click on your results, so a good description may lure more people onto your site .(Google will often use the description text in its search listings, it's that bit of text beneath the website name in the google results that gives people an idea of what the site is about.)

A URL with the same keywords as people are searching on, is definitely a factor Google uses for ranking.

So all other things being equal, "dogwalkingservice.co.uk" will rank higher than "happyhounds.co.uk" if people type in "dog walking" or "dog walking service".

Of course you may feel that "Happy Hounds" is an easier name to sell to people!

It's a balance and up to you where you feel the balance lies.

blinkowl · 09/05/2016 16:30

"Google no longer looks at keywords. Not at all. "

Sorry maybe I should qualify that!

By "keywords" I mean specifically the meta tag for keywords.

Google does still look at keywords in the actual text of your page, this is really important (although the days of stuffing your page with keywords are gone too, Google will penalise you if you try to game the system by writing "dog walking service" every couple of sentences!)

Lancelottie · 09/05/2016 16:34

In this context, msg me if you would like any pointers made me laugh.

Other dogs are available...

thisisbloodyridiculous · 09/05/2016 16:36

lancelottie Grin excellent. Didn't even realise

Winnetsthepoo · 09/05/2016 16:38

Oysterbabe Grin puns are fine for MN usernames but not for entrusting people with my pouch.

Winnetsthepoo · 09/05/2016 16:38

Oysterbabe Pooch. I meant pooch.

clockbuscanada · 09/05/2016 16:39

dogwalking service (for reasons outlined by Blink and PPs above)

Or

For Dog's Sake (because I like puns).
