To ask if I should get my hopes up about clomid?

First post. I've been TTC for over a year. I have PCOS and periods are extremely erratic (often can be every3-4 months or so). We've finally passed all the obligatory tests and I'm due to start clomid next week(likely provera first to induce period and then clomid). So excited/apprehensive and I don't want to pin all my hopes on this. Does anyone have any success stories? It's hard to get a straightforward answer and I'd be really interested to hear people's honest experiences of using clomid. Thanks in advance.

Yep I conceived on 5th round of clomid, he's now 2! Got pregnant 2 years later with no assistance. Only side effect was hot flushes. Good luck!

I got my hopes up for Clomid, only to be cruelly dashed on every cycle as i didn't respond at all. Please don't get your hopes up, then if something amazing happens it will be a lovely surprise! Smile

Also, look at alternatives if clomid isn't working. I eventually conceived on Letrozole (Femara) a breast cancer drug that is used off-licence by some Health Boards/Trusts. But it is a postcode lottery as to whether Trusts follow the NICE guidance on using it, frustratingly. It has a different mechanism to clomid for Ov. induction and so can work where clomid fails. Some private fertility centres do prescribe it though.

Good luck

It didn't work for me and the side effects weren't fun either. I was wicked tempered, would go completely mad over the slightest thing, my husband got to the point he didn't even want to come home...not the best way to get pregnant. Also, on the days I actually took the pills my eyeballs flickered up and down, for some reason. This was not a concern for my doctor though.

Twins off the first cycle for me too Grin

didn't work for us unfortunately but subsequently discovered pcos was not our only issue! I did ovulate though and no issues at all with side effects... Good luck!

Work for me. First time, and we have beautiful twins. No side effects.

Have you been on the Verity PCOS forum? I had 8 months on it, felt awful and it didn't work.

I was on a very active Clomid buddies thread on the Verity forum and there were very few successes TBH. But apart from I think one person, everybody who was on that thread has since successfully conceived and give birth via other AC (I'm currently pregnant with 2&3 via IVF).

If you want a realistic assessment of Clomid with PCOS it might be worth visiting the Verity forum for a look around.

Sorry if that sounds a little pessimistic, but I remember being in your shoes and the disappointment can be crushing so I don't want to give you a false level of hope.

I had clomid, the first month I ovulated but didn't conceive, the second month I did not ovulate, the third month I ovulated and conceived and had a baby girl 9 months later.

I second what billsykesdog says about the verity forum. It was invaluable when try with pcos and for just managing in general. The clomid threads were great b
