AIBU to get annoyed at being asked questions at chemists?

Today at the chemists (who shall remain nameless) I wanted some Solpadeine so am asked if they are for me and not to take them for more than 3 days. I've also been asked if I'm on any medication when buying other 'drugs'.

The lady before me in the chemists wanted some golden eye ointment. When asked if it was for her she commented that it was for a pet. Assistant immediately goes into police mode. 'I can't sell it to you, we're not licensed for that.' Lady says that it's for herself in that case. Assistant is implacable. I offered to buy it myself and she could give me the money. Assistant remains implacable saying she knew the circumstances!

I can understand why they might ask about other drugs as there can be a conflict but it's this policing attitude that grates.

hmm, even our old Saturday boy who just worked with us during his a-levels was a fully qualified healthcare assistant (in fact he did was such a swot that he did his exams in less than 6 months!).

Who, presumably, asks you the same 'ridiculous script... as they are legally bound to!

No, some of them actually exercise some judgement. Sometimes it's even dictated by company policy. I remember a chemist in one town I worked in putting all the hay fever medication behind the counter and you had to undergo 30 questions to get access to it. Meanwhile, round the corner, you could just pluck it off the shelves. Some of it also involved upselling :-(((

I got stopped from buying 8 packs of Loratidene in Aldi (only a months worth for OH and myself) I hadn't realised that there was a restriction on it, and this item goes very quickly so wanted to stock up.

The fuss they made...I know, I know they were doing the right thing...you would of thought I was buying to sell on. I've also been questioned by the Pharmacist in Asda as was buying two packets of 28. The upshot of this is I will probably take up my GP's offer (he was very insistant but I told him I would buy it OTC, as it was so cheap) of having it on prescription

Aha, another thing I stock up in bulk in the US, loratidine. Also generic immodium and ranitidine, big bottles of ibuprofen and paracetamol.
