To find my mother so odd?

Hi all suppose this is following on from I don't love my parents thread really. Aibu to find my mother so odd? When we were younger she worked a lot and hasn't interested really. Everything was a huge deal if I did something minor I would be made to feel so disgusting it was unreal! Now I'm older I realise she's a control freak she wants to know everything about our lives. She does odd things and won't let things go. For example we were going to have a wedding venue that she didn't like she went to a wedding there and went on and on about how awful it was for weeks FFs why bother?
If she doesn't like someone hair or whatever she will stare and it for ages making it so obvious. I feel like she looks me up and down it's so uncomfortable. She creates situations then acts daft ie my aunty asked if I was having kids and my mum joined in the never ending questions it was inappropriate, when I called her about it she acted daft. In short I think she knows exactly what she's doing. I'm nice I'm polite to her but my god she is not getting to know any of my business. Is this just odd?

Are you my sister? Yes it's odd

MegGriffin1 · 07/05/2016 08:40

Hahaha similar then? I feel terrible but I actually can't bear to be near her at times

My mother is odd in that she acts like the child and me the parent. She hides boyfriends, avoids telling the truth and says I'm boring and too hands of with my kids as opposed to letting your kids raise themselves and siblings from primary school age i don't get it and find her a struggle to be around tbh so YANBU.

That should be hands ON not off!

I feel guilty feeling this way but I do. I worry about when she gets older and I'll have to shoulder responsibility for her which I don't want to do

My mother too. They are cold unfriendly people. She is the person in front of you in the queue who can see you're in a rush so deliberately takes ages just to spite you.

MegGriffin1 · 07/05/2016 09:21

Lol Bill. I just find it bloody weird. I wonder if it's a generation thing? Her siblings are much the same

Me too. I have long winded and deep rooted problems with my mother. What you've described rings a bell with me.

The stately homes thread on MN has really helped me to begin to understand her behaviours. I can recommend it.

The obsessive questions/fixation on things sounds like she might be on the autistic spectrum.

Mrsmorton · 07/05/2016 10:49

My mum has some of these traits. As well as not believing me over silly things. She didn't believe me that I have an in date passport Confused despite the fact I regularly travel to teach.
She's incredibly spiteful as well.

Do you think they realise at all how much they miss out on bcse of their behaviour?

MegGriffin1 · 07/05/2016 15:16

I don't think she's autisitic I actually think she's a knob. I don't think she knows she misses out because I do make the effort and she is unaware how painful I find it. She'll never know as I don't see the point telling her
