...to expect a refund for these shoes?

I bought a pair of Clarks Doodles for my daughter today. She loves them. She had a pair of Doodles last year, no problems at all. She is a G/H width, however, and Doodles only go up to F. I did mention this to the shop assistant but she said it would be okay.

Anyway, because she has had Doodles before, I thought nothing of her wearing them outside that day. After half a day's wear she had red marks and broken skin (a blister) on her feet.

Would IBU to take these shoes back and ask for a refund? I don't want an exchange, as this particular shop only does a limited range.

Harsh replies? Where?!! If you want harsh try a parking thread!

MiddleClassProblem · 06/05/2016 23:10

Er... Not one harsh reply

MiddleClassProblem · 06/05/2016 23:13

DD (16 months but an early walker so now running, climbing, starting to jump) had jelly shoes that rubbed. I used a small round plaster on the heel and then sudocreme rubbed in under the t bar which mean she could wear them a bit longer (because she loved them). One got lost in the sea though so that was the end of that.

MiddleClassProblem · 06/05/2016 23:14

I say used to like it was a long time ago but it was like 2 months ago... My problem is not glue but magic markers

BoffinMum · 06/05/2016 23:19

I believe Clarks have some kind of fitting guarantee, don't they?

cinnamongirl1976 · 06/05/2016 23:19

What I mean by 'harsh' is that people on AIBU (I read daily, rarely post) are very quick to jump down other people's throats and talk in a way that you wouldn't if someone was asking a question face-to-face. Well, I wouldn't, anyway. It's a bit of a vipers' nest. I was aggressively accused of trolling once (I absolutely wasn't) on a thread that was deleted and then subsequently saw me banned. It was about a situation I was very upset about as well. I've since re-registered but rarely post on here now.

But that's beyond the point of the OP and I daren't go down that line. I probably don't actually want a refund anyway - I would prefer the shop to tell me the shoes are fine, but I suppose I am not sure they are. And if they're not then I will feel misinformed. Anyway, we'll see.

Grays, thank you for the apology Smile.

But I might try Vaseline or Sudocrem anyway, thanks. I would prefer to keep the shoes but for them not to rip her feet apart!

Er... Not one harsh reply

Mine was Grin and I realised I'd got it wrong and said sorry Blush

Thanks OP, sorry again about that. I'm a dipstick sometimes it's friday can I blame the wine?

MiddleClassProblem · 06/05/2016 23:24

Do the harsh comments were not about this thread, just AIBU?Confused

Anyway hope the cream works. Limit her time in them or see if you can get an exchange as pp said they obliviously stock wider so maybe they just didn't have them in

cinnamongirl1976 · 06/05/2016 23:24

PS sorry, I did not mean to grumble at you all I am probably a bit oversensitive/afraid of you lot based on what happened to me before! Smile

Lol it's ok but just don't wear a suede coat in the rain or hire a nanny if your DH does all the childcare, you don't work and already have a cleaner/maid Wink

Cheby · 06/05/2016 23:38

Clarks are great with stuff like this usually. DH got DD fitted for some shoes a while ago, measured as an E, had shoes fitted and bought them. I got home from work and found her running round the garden in G width shoes! So a terrible fit.

I took them back the next day, they apologised profusely and exchanged for the right size. No trouble at all.

umizoomi · 06/05/2016 23:43

If they measured her and fitted the shoes (signed the paper thing they give you to take to the toll) yes take them back. Clarks pride themselves on the fit. And ALL the sandals are an F width for those on here having a go.

The straps majestic them adjust.

I think they will refund/exchange for youHmm

umizoomi · 06/05/2016 23:43

Excuse random Hmm

TooOldForGlitter · 06/05/2016 23:45

You've had nothing but helpful responses so to chuck out the term "vipers nest" is a bit of an overreaction.

Ilovewillow · 06/05/2016 23:47

We had doodles in a larger width fitting last year! Although not the point if they fitted them I would expect a refund it my child had worn them with socks and they still blistered. If you fitted them or went against their suggestion then you probably won't get a refund, but worth a try!

Shortandsweet20 · 06/05/2016 23:48

I work in Clarks, are you talking about doodle sandals? As all the doodles come in more width fittings but all sandals only come in a F fitting for girls, G for boys. If you're not happy, take them back and ask for a second opinion. If they are too tight your only option is to go up half a size..

It may be because of the weather and the heat etc, but take them back and someone will sort them! :)

MiddleClassProblem · 06/05/2016 23:51

F fitting for girls, G for boy

Shock
Shortandsweet20 · 07/05/2016 09:19

They are all technically the same width, as they are adjustable, it's just so we know where they are in stock and they are easier to put away as often they have the same names, in summer rushes with Temps it can get confusing as it is!!

SouperSal · 07/05/2016 10:23

Children's feet change shape. DD was walking at 9 months and needed an H fitting. Next few pairs were a G and for the last couple of years an F is perfect. Not all shapes of shoes are good for all feet (a bit like boobs and bras). DD can't wear anything with a T bar for example and needs a very rounded toe shape. It's just a case of buying the ones that fit best rather than the ones that look cutest. You only get 1 pair of feet!

Rosalie55 · 07/05/2016 16:41

I work in Clarks.

If you let her wear them for the first time for half a day without socks then YABU to expect no blisters.

With doodles width is rarely an issue unless she's over an H fitting. G/H width should fit fine into an F doodle - they are light weight and adjustable.

Where are the blisters on her foot? Sounds to me like the issue is the fact that she's worn them for quite a long time, maybe without socks on a very warm day for the first time as opposed to any fitting issue to be honest.

Janecc · 07/05/2016 17:26

If you let her wear them without socks, I would give dds feet time to recover and let her wear them with only with socks. This will reduce the rubbing. If you are still concerned, return them to Clarks taking your DD with you and they will give you a second opinion on the fit. If they are the doodle sandals as PPs said they only come in one size. F width. My Dd can only wear Clarks sandals because of the adjustable Velcro straps. She is an h fit, sometimes coming out slightly wider and she has always been fine wearing Clarks sandals. When she was little, she always wore socks with them.

NattyNatural · 07/05/2016 20:54

Take them back, I took my ds shoes back to clarks after a week because they were denting his skin where they were to tight on the bridge. They changed them no problem
