To ask if you live in Belfast, do you like it?

I'm from there but haven't lived there since a teenager. I've lived in London for my entire adult life but we will never be able to buy here, and we're just surviving really. Me and DH have been thinking of moving home with our DS (1). But I can't imagine living there. I hated growing up there and worry about raising a kid there.

But all my family live there and that would be nice, to be near them. I just struggle to visualise myself there. If you live there and like it, why? Thanks in advance.

My DB has lived in Holywood for 8 years and loves it. It has changed him though, he used to be very much a country boy but now he struggles if you take him out of the city! I've loved it when I visited.

I'm still agonising over this. I've been job hunting and nothing. Husband is against Glasgow and I can see why, we know nothing and have noone there and that stuffs important when you have a kid. In Belfast we'd have babysitting on tap, we'd have a housewarming people would actually come to!

Brexit has thrown me through a loop because NI id heavily dependent on EU money, especially creative industries. I'm scared of a return of the border also meaning a return of the troubles and I don't want my son to grow up in that. Argh. Has it changed your views of the future there?

I don't think there will be a border again - too much us at stake with potential collapse of the peace process if that were to happen. I live in NI and we are all hoping that an agreement will be reached whereby the current free movement between us and the Republic of Ireland. Obviously nobody knows, but this is what I imagine everybody will want. I would still come here if I were you, Belfast is a fantastic place - I am biased though!

Well, a massive bump from me the OP! I'm moving to Belfast next month and wanted to thank everyone for their advice and input. Bricking it, but it'll hopefully be a good move.

Bumblebee2302 · 05/12/2017 17:35

Aw, great! What area are you moving into?

LeiasGoldBikini · 05/12/2017 18:03

Just off the Ormeau Road. Had to get somewhere very quickly so it's not an ideal place (no garden) but ace area.

Welcome and good luck!

I’m from just outside Belfast and now love just outside London! We do own a home, but have a £300k mortgage for a small, 3 bed terrace. If there was any chance of DH leaving his job, (there isn’t), we would move there in a heartbeat. It’s a lot cooler and more cultured in Belfast than where we now live or in any of the the areas near London we could afford to buy.

Oh - see this thread is a bit ancient, but glad if my comment has helped bumble.
