another facebook selling one
I was selling a fridge freezer earlier
lady turned up to collect, Sold it for 25 pounds (nothing wrong with it, so quite a bargain!) she had driven 30 minutes to come and get it, then offered me a tenner on the spot. I said no, I'm sorry I know I want a quick sale but I'm not taking offers.
she then has a go at me (In my own bloody hallway) because she's spent a fiver on fuel and now has nothing to show for it. I offered to go down to 20, because I felt very bad for her.. she then told me 'oh i've only got the 10.' so I said I sympathize with you feeling your time has been wasted, however I've got to get on now.. She then flounced out the door calling me a 'fucking bitch' on her way out... Not too put out because someone has just collected it now (this happened around 2hrs ago) for the full 25 but I'm still a bit shocked that someone would not only a- be so rude (not my aibu) but b- turn up with less than the amount required...
ok fair enough if you want to attempt a last minute haggle but why would you not at least have the full price on you, so if the seller says no you can choose to go ''ok here you go''...
AIBU to wonder why anyone would bother turning up (And wasting their time+money) if they didn't have the required amount of cash??

I was selling some brand new superdry canvas shoes - I'd failed to return them thinking my son would grow into them but even when they were the right size they weren't comfy (high instep).

Anyway woman messages me to say she'd only give me a fiver instead of £15 as her partner is disabled so doesn't need expensive shoes.... Hmm

I've given up trying to sell. Last parcels went out from ebay sales this week, from now on it's all going to the charity shop. After ebay takes a cut of the sale price and shipping cost, I will have made £3 for a load of Boden kids stuff and a few other things worn only a few times, it's ridiculous.
I took a huge bag of kids name brands hardly worn due to Dd being very inconsiderate and growing like a weed over the winter into the Mind shop, they are bloody lovely in there, I'm giving it all to them now.
Freecycle is a nightmare. I told one woman I was leaving the stuff for her by the front door for her to pick up. I also tell them if it isn't picked up by whatever time I take it to the charity shop. I'm not doing that anymore either.

The last time someone did similar to me was over a TV.
I had it up for 80 (32'' flat screen tv, not a bad price!)
He turned up and said oh i've only got 35. I said thats a good deposit let me know when you've got the rest. He managed to suddenly magic the rest from the car too lol.
I just find it really rude, like trying to knock a fiver or tenner off fair enough but if the seller says no, surely you should have the rest of the money ready to go just in case? I would feel really nervous about going to buy an item, regardless of what if I only had 50 or even 80 percent of what the person was asking. What a wasted trip that may turn out to be!

My experience with people who buy/sell stuff on local fb sites has let me know that there is a very VERY high proportion of thickos/chancers on these sites as opposed to, say, gumtree.

Honestly, Gumtree is a million times better, use that if you can in future.

Oh and another thing that winds me the fuck up too.
I was selling a brown table the other week, asking for £40 (I'd paid 85 and it didn't really fit well with my other, quite lighter brown furniture so sold when only 3 weeks from new, no marks or scratches etc). Pretty good price i'm sure anyone would agree.
Anyway. woman calls me (It was gumtree so had my number up) saying ''I really want it in white so i'd be prepared to offer you 10 pounds'' if its so important for you to get it in white, why the hell do you want mine?

Cheeky mare! YANBU.

So far I've not experienced any FB selling issues - buyers have been lovely, punctual and paid full agreed amount. Freecycle on the other hand is bloody awful. I've had one person just march straight into my house to collect the item which was in the garden (which if he'd waited I would have brought out to him), no-shows, people rocking up when they want totally ignoring my day and time specification, sob stories of why they really must have the compost bin (yes, a compost bin) and one man who freaked me out so much by demanding my address and phone number I had to firmly tell him to eff off (and the. keep his 15 emails as evidence incase he did somehow track me down).

My dp had to go help the neighbour turf a group of people off his property after they had turned up en masse (extended family apparently, seven people!) to have a look at the car he was selling, offered half the asking price and became aggressive and wouldn't leave when the neighbour declined their offer!

Had to threaten them with the police to get them to go.

SecretSeven · 06/05/2016 21:43

I came to the conclusion that I would make much more money working at my job than I would buying or selling to stupid people.

The important thing is not to take it personally; it can be quite fun.

I remember a man who made me wait in for ages as he was desperate to see a bike I was selling for £400 (he had to drive 40 miles to look at it). He spent an hour and a half looking at it, then said he'd make an offer.

I said "Sorry you drove all the way from Sheffield!" and walked off with it. His face!

I sold a treadmill lately, advertised it for £75 on Gumtree. A bloke messaged me and said he'd give me £25 if I would deliver it to him in a town 30 miles away. I assumed he meant he'd pay me an extra £25 on top to cover delivery. But no, he meant he wanted to pay £25 for the treadmill and wanted it delivering for free. Then he had the cheek to tell me I was the one having a laugh when I told him to get stuffed. Shock

pocketsaviour · 06/05/2016 22:07

A bloke from Gumtree offered me half my asking price for a nearly new iPad.

When I turned him down he called me a whore and said he'd find out where I lived and "sort me out".

I complained to Gumtree; they didn't even reply to my email. Haven't advertised on there since. I stick to eBay now.

Oh I had a total tosser on eBay.
Sold a PS3 that had come from eBay 2 months before - Tesco reconditioned, boxed, sealed, warranty.
I explained in the listing the truth - I'd bought it for a boyfriend, he didn't want it, I didn't get it back in time for refund.
So I was selling it, the warranty was valid but I HAD NOT TESTED IT.
Box sealed.
Receipt and packaging shown - reputable source, Tesco.
Went for bargain price - and I'd listed free P&P.

Buyer then says it is for daughter's birthday at weekend and it needs to be delivered to work - can I do next day delivery, needs to be the 09:00 delivery though as he's on shift. Now fair enough my own fault not to check postage, I said OK. Cost me something like £30! But - I'd said yes.

As it was a birthday present, I chucked in two games I had for FREE as a surprise and wrote a card (yeah, I'm soft)

I also mailed him and repeated the listing warning: it's come from the Tesco reconditioned place, I have no reason to believe there'll be an issue, but you MUST check it before her birthday because I HAVE NEVER OPENED IT. This is why I paid £30 postage... I could have mailed him when I got to the PO and said no, he'd have to pay postage for that.

Anyway, one of two controllers wasn't working.

I got a long email from him 3 days later on the birthday saying his wife was really mad with me (grow some fucking balls you arsehole).

They had only found out on the birthday only one person could play. They'd wasted hours on her birthday going to CEX to find the same custom colour controller, it had been £30 and he wanted (well his wife wanted) me to pay for it. He had apparently talked her down from sending it all back to me for a refund.

I said no.

I pointed out he'd never thanked me for not backing down on the £30 postage. He'd never thanked me for the two free games. And that if he had tested it as I told him to and he said he would, there'd have been time for me to get a controller on line with next day delivery for him. And that the whole reason I hadn't just come home with it when the PO said £30 was because I wanted him to have a chance to check it all.

Arsehole!!!

I've been waiting 7 years to let this out... Grin

So, I was selling a musical instrument, because I needed the money. I'd played it growing up but never really did anymore. This instrument was an unusual colour. I tried selling it on ebay but no luck, so tried gumtree.

Woman came to buy it - we both travelled to a mutual location and met in a coffee shop. She jumped in front of me and paid for the coffees, obviously (in hindsight) to get me on the back foot and feel I "owed" her. I was new to all this, and there were various very difficult things going on in my life at the time so I was too stunned to intervene.

She then haggled me down in price, despite agreeing a price beforehand, and INSULTED my musical instrument! (Cow! Grin) She said the colour made it difficult to sell on when she'd finished with it. I handed it ovr and got a lump in my throat, made a little joke about not realising one got so attached to musical intruments. THEN she pretended to be all kindly and offered to sell it back to me a year later (when she'd mastered the basics and bought a "better" one! ) for EXACTLY THE SAME PRICE.

I muttered, in surprise, that that would be pointless, and left. Honestly though, the way she acted like it was some fantastic offer to basically hire this thing for free for a year. Hmm
Cried all the way home, everything was a bit much and this tipped me over.

Then , when I got in I had an email from someone on ebay wondering if it was still available as their young son had "fallen in love" with it due to unusual colour. So I could have got a better price and had it go to someone who appreciated it!

BITCH!!
