It's a bit silly - DP wants an electric car and I'm all for it, for many reasons. However, the one that has now caught his eye is a Renault and has the same name as a woman he had an emotional affair with. I don't think I can stand to hear that name being repeated on a daily basis. WIBU to ask him not to buy it?

We drive a Zoe. Nice car, cheaper than a leaf. But I have had a woman come up to me to tell me Zoe is a nice name and ask me how I got my name put on the car! Am definitely not a Zoe. That obviously didn't bother me but I can see it would really annoy you.

Not the point but you have to rent the battery with the zoe so it can work out more expensive than most other electric cars. It's about £80 a month.

almostthirty - we didn't have enough money up front for a leaf (Zoe was second hand) and didn't want a loan. There are advantages to battery rental: they monitor the battery efficiency; they will replace it if something goes wrong or when battery efficiency drops below a certain level - battery is the most expensive bit; free recovery to a Renault garage if you managed to run the battery to zero. We would have got a leaf if we had the money but we've had the Zoe a year and love it. Has got us to Holland and back from Doncaster.

If money was no object my DH would buy a Tesla. Our unborn child is currently referred to as Elon after the Tesla founder (we won't actually use that name).

We have the hybrid Toyota Yaris.

I love it.

And it has the advantage of not having the same name as anyone DH has ever had a relationship with.

Got a Leaf now (not new) - picking it up next Monday. Yay!

Hopefully we should be able to use some of the electricity generated by our solar panels to charge it.

Nissan Leaf and Renault Zoe are basically the same car. Nissan and Renault use loads of the same tech in all their cars and have been financially tied for many years - very similar to VW and Audi for example.

Therefore - get a Leaf.
