to pick up the bread roll with my hands?

In the bakery bit of the supermarket I always pick up the bread rolls with my hands, ensuring I don't touch any of the other rolls. I don't see the point in using the tongs cos I'm the only one that's going to eat it, however someone really tutted at me for doing that today so I'm wondering if people consider it gross? No one uses tongs for the apples or courgettes or whatever so I don't get the difference.

I once saw a young(ish) bloke with his partner take something out of the bakery items - pastry of some sort iirc, take a bite and then put it back Shock. They seemed a bit aggressive going round the shop so I didn't challenge them but then neither did the shop assistant who watched them do it...anyway just don't buy them best thing really!

I only ever buy the fresh rolls if I have just seen them being put out or if they are in packaging. I don't like the idea that someone could have touched them/sneezed on them/dropped them on the floor. So, YABU just for buying the rolls Grin

Those saying about the plastic bag trick..i already said in lidl they don't have bags you can do that with!

Love that people actually avoid buying them because of them maybe being touched, do you ever eat out? People will definitely have touched your food before you've eaten it a lot of the time.

Yes, but those people generally won't be toddlers who stick their fingers up their nose/bum/in their ear - of course it's impossible to avoid food being touched completely, but I'd rather not eat snot-covered bread if I can help it!
