Ds is 12. Year 7. Goes to school in the nearest big town. 6 miles away.

Ds gets a bus pass for school. He has lost it. In the pit he calls a bedroom. Every time I send him to look for it, he goes to his room and sits and reads. Or plays with something. Or anything to avoid tidying.

He is now not allowed on the bus without his pass. We got a letter.

I haven't got £20 to replace a card that's in his room. Especially as he just can't be bothered to look for it...

He has fully functioning arms, legs and brain. There is no physical reason why he can't ride. If he had a broken leg or something, then I would have to take him!

Aibu to make him ride until he finds his pass?

My mistake Peggy see the ages now.

My comment about you misreading the report stands though. The figures only apply to road accidents between the hours stated. And they are for deaths and serious injuries (which means, amoung other things, any hospital treated fracture, concussion, deep cut or overnight stay) not just deaths.

It most definitely does not say that cycling deaths in the school run hours are the second biggest killer of children 7+.

OP said her DS has an old iPhone 4. I read that as being that it had perhaps been a hand-me-down, not one she had bought for him. Either that or he has had it ages.

Making him cycle is a great idea.

The iPhone 4 is at least 4 years old. It is confiscated until he finds the bus pass

I spent 4 quid on a second hand cheap basic phone in cash converters so he can contact me or the police or school in an emergency. 4 quid is still a dent in the budget, but less than 20.
He enjoyed his ride today.
If I could get through his door, I would help him. But I also have the toddler to look after. She likes tidying...

Great idea OP. To all the posters saying they wouldn't let their child cycle 6 iles in rush hour traffic. We do not all live in large towns / cities where this is a consideration. Rush hour where I live consists of mainly walkers, some cyclists and a few cars with one bus in the 2 hours between 7-9am plus 6 miles takes no time at all on a bike.
