It makes me feel ill ever time I step on it.

If he won't get rid because he has a half say in decoration just hint that he may well find himself wrapped in it and dumped far, far away in a field where some of the previous skin owner's relatives might like to have a word

We have a reindeer skin from Sweden as well. We told the DC that's what happens to reindeer who fail their flying test (only after they were old enough to know we were joking). It is draped across the back of a chair - I wouldn't have it on the floor because it is too sheddy.
