WIBU/ in poor taste to sell these tights on Ebay?

I inherited from my grandma (who died nearly a decade ago) a large number of unopened unworn tights. Bought from the 70s onwards. Having finally concluded I'm unlikely ever to be slim enough or cool enough to pull them off myself, I'm ebaying most of them. All fine, until I found this pair, which obviously predate 2001! EBay them? Or is it a bit off? And if so would a charity shop have the same problem...? Seems a shame just to chuck them...

People sell metal detecting findings on ebay
I say go for it

MattDillonsPants · 01/05/2016 15:50

Metal detecting finds can include Victorian jewellery and even Mediaeval items. Hardly comparable.

OnlyLovers · 01/05/2016 16:09

Matt, I think the worth/value of these is more as a cultural artefact than their direct connection (or lack of) with the Twin Towers.

As someone says upthread, they could contribute to the discussion of how iconic the towers were and how embedded in the culture.

MattDillonsPants · 01/05/2016 16:13

Mmm. Not really. As I said, these have no connection at all with the towers bar the name. There are literally millions of items made during the towers' lifetime which illustrate their iconic status and which have actually been IN the towers or associated with them in some way.

I'm not expecting them to be worth anything. I just need rid of these binliners of tights that have been following me around but because they were my grandma's feel weird about throwing them out, or about the thought of a charity shop chucking them.

Have actually remembered through pondering this for the afternoon that one of my Mum's cousins inherited both my Grandma's quirky clothing tastes and obsession with Americana. I may actually see if she wants them, or any of the others.

There's a particularly fetching pair of Zandra Rhodes grey ones decorated with yellow helicopters I think will be right up her street...

ooh, I quite like them!

OnlyLovers · 01/05/2016 16:22

I don't understand why you're so firm on the idea that they'd have to have been in or associated with the towers to be of any interest.

And yes, there are possibly lots of items like this out there. But no one knows if any have been offered to museums or whatever. It might be that the OP's pair would be the first and only pair offered.
