Dd is 2.2 and has recently started preschool. They do show and tell once a week. I bought this crab the other day. We prepared it and ate it together.

I think that the shell would be an interesting show and tell. Dd is fascinated by it.

Dh thinks I'll forever be known as the weird parent who sent a crab in. Thoughts?

Incidentally, he came out beautifully from the dishwasher Grin

My uncle, who's a bit arty, found a sheep's skull, made a lead skullcap for it and called him Yorick! He used to reside on my cousin's piano. Grin

I remember a wasps' nest being brought in when I was at primary, it was shown in assembly. I once took in some skeletal heads found on a beach in Kent - nobody could work out what they might have belonged to!

LavenderRains · 04/05/2016 07:41

DD used to collect bones. Not any old bones tho, just all the chicken bones after a Sunday lunch Grin
she would wash them and keep them in a tupperware box.
she took them to school on a few occasions. Goodness knows what the teacher thought!

FasterThanASnakeAndAMongoose · 04/05/2016 08:52

I'm storing all these up as future ideas! Yorkshire pudding Grin

Maybe next time the cats bring something in I'll consider its show and tell potential!

I remember taking a lizard's tail that had come off in our garden (cat may have been responsible for that, thinking about it!), various skulls and a snakeskin too. Kids definitely do love dead stuff Grin
Glad the crab went down well!

wednesdaysocks · 04/05/2016 09:19

I took a wasp nest in once empty of course My dad does pest control and had removed it a few days before and left it in his van.

BarbarianMum · 04/05/2016 09:28

Ds1 once took in the section of pipework that had burst after a freeze - along with a vivid description of paddling round the kitchen it wellies whilst mum and dad shouted (it was Christmas Eve). Blush

Ds2 stole the show with our pair of young tortoises though (I went in to supervise that one).

jaamy · 04/05/2016 12:23

Your poor DH! What an incredibly boring normal childhood he must have had! Wink

MammaBean1988 · 04/05/2016 12:24

Epic Show&Tell item!

Would it be weird if you'd found it as a shell on the beach with DD? No, it would be cool and educational and interesting and different.

Do it! And let us know how her class & teacher respond!

VulcanWoman · 04/05/2016 12:27

I agree, kids love dead stuff.

icepop9000 · 04/05/2016 12:28

I always thought the more unusual the better!

My son wanted to take his sister in when she was 2 days old. He told me to leave her in the show and tell box until after lunch!!!

dowhatnow · 04/05/2016 12:34

Some show and tells are so dreadfully tedious, a nice crab would be lovely.

sherbetpips · 04/05/2016 12:38

yep that is cool. Lady over the road took there pet snakes shed skin in, looked amazing as it was whole and he is a big snake.

spiderlight · 04/05/2016 12:38

PMSL at the tarantula on your desk!! Grin

sherbetpips · 04/05/2016 12:38

and we had a tarantula skin one time as well!

squizita · 04/05/2016 12:38

DD's nursery have the shells of sea creatures that they show the kids anyway ... not weird at all!

squizita · 04/05/2016 12:39

My mate's dad was a butcher and she brought in a WHOLE PIG'S HEAD once. Lord of the flies or what!?!

shipsladyg · 04/05/2016 12:41

DS (4) took to S&T a circuit board from a broken DVD player he'd dismantled and a SCART lead. He had already been taking these to bed with him for several weeks.

TondelayaDellaVentamiglia · 04/05/2016 12:43

the dishwasher is fab for cleaning up old bones....i often find bits and bobs when out with the dogs and bringing them home.

afussyphase · 04/05/2016 12:59

not to derail but can I ask: I'm assuming a jar (LID CLOSED!) with a few head lice in is a no-go for show and tell? The unit is 'mini-beasts' after all...
Recently we verified that the little fuckers can survive for 9 hours in a jar.

ceebie · 04/05/2016 13:03

My son wanted to take his sister in when she was 2 days old. He told me to leave her in the show and tell box until after lunch!!!

Were you tempted to do as he said, and spend a few hours shopping resting? I'm sure nursery would have looked after her very well! Grin

iMogster · 04/05/2016 13:12

My DS2 is starting reception in September. I need all the show and tell ideas I can get. I never thought of taking a crab's shell or sheep's skull. I can imagine all the kids loving it and not being boring for the teacher either.

My DC found a dead fish on the beach, it turned into the surprise highlight of the holiday. Confused

icepop9000 · 04/05/2016 13:13

It was soooo tempting!!!

Mumnone · 04/05/2016 13:21

send it in, I will definitely be known as the weird parent
