to think that women who are a size 6/8/10 are permanently on a diet?

I don't mean diet as in counting every calorie, but diet as in they hardly eat any carbs and don't eat cakes, biscuits etc more than a couple of times a year? I am not a thin person (you guessed?) and I look at what my really slim female colleagues eat and it's salads with no carbs and just a tiny bit of protein, or soup or smoothies. Is that what it takes to be a thin person?

^I'm really slim and can eat exactly what I want.

But 'what you want' is almost certainly far less than what someone who's overweight wants. This is the crucial point, isn't it?^

Not necessarily. I eat well over the recommended calories for a woman (despite being petite and sedentary), and lots of high fat food, and I stay pretty slim (8/10). Some overweight people eat a lot less than me and still can't lose weight. It's not fair but it's true.

Marmalade85 · 30/04/2016 23:28

I am fat and have always been obsessed with food and eating until I'm fit to burst. Have lost significant amounts of weight twice and also had eating disorders over the years. Currently trying to lose weight again. I cannot comprehend having one biscuit. How could I change my mentality to that of a thin person? I'm always gaining or losing weight and never maintain.

BillBrysonsBeard · 30/04/2016 23:55

Same here Marmalade, always in a starve or binge cycle. People I see every few years don't know whether to expect someone thin or fat when they come to see me Grin I wish I could have one biscuit too. It's so bizarre isn't it, we control our hands and it sounds so easy to just not put our hand to our mouths.. But it isn't! Just one biscuit feels like I'm missing out on something delicious! I wish I had a normal appetite and really don't want DS to have my issues, so need to show him how to eat normally rather than just telling him..

It would be good to see an honest days eating from the slim and fat people on this thread.

Marmalade85 · 01/05/2016 00:01

Hopefully someone will help us out bill.

I once got sent to the hospital from a birthday party when I was around 7 years old because I kept vomiting. Nobody was impressed when they discovered it was because I had eaten all of the sweets. Blush

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 00:07

Slim person, an honest day's eating

About two spoonfuls of DS's leftover porridge
Slice of toast with butter, sliver of cheese
Two finger kitkat
Small baked potato, 1/3 tin of tuna with mayo, grated cheese, medium salad (no dressing.
Drank water and black tea

Exercise wise I've done a few chores but mostlylolled around reading and mumsnetting.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 00:08

Oh, I've eaten quite a lot of Galaxy too.

hollieberrie · 01/05/2016 00:16

Slim person here too, today I've had:
Boiled egg and 1 slice of rye toast. Small coffee with milk.
Large Costa skinny latte.
Tuna sweetcorn and tomato open sandwich on rye & an apple. Herbal tea.
Pork and veggies stir fry (without the rice). More herbal tea. A few large spoonfuls of Nutella :)
Been on a brisk 20 min walk.

daydreamnation · 01/05/2016 00:20

Well I'm mid 40's, a size 8 and I'm just polishing off a plate of chips, washed down with half a bottle of wine (classy!) I eat what I want but move a lot as I'm one of life's 'fidgets' Smile

Gwenhwyfar · 01/05/2016 00:30

"Gwenhwyfar, why does that statement [craving green veg] make you laugh? "

I think you know why it makes me laugh. It's because I see green veg as very boring food and not nice enough to make me crave it. I only ever crave "bad" food. After eating a lot of junk food, I do think "I should have something healthy now", but it's never a craving.

BertieBotts · 01/05/2016 00:38

Today's from me (and this isn't a good day because I skipped dinner, and now I look back, breakfast too)

Coffee
Kiwi fruit
Subway 6 inch sub, meat but no cheese (allergic)
Half a packet of crisps shared with DS, slurp of fanta
Energy drink
4 mini quiche things I made yesterday
Bowl of sliced strawberries (4 or 5) and banana (1 small) with cream and sugar
Coffee
8 squares oreo chocolate

I should drink more.

BertieBotts · 01/05/2016 00:39

Oh and my phone tells me I walked for 43 mins or 3.32km.

BertieBotts · 01/05/2016 00:40

I feel hungry now because it's stupid o'clock but I won't make anything. I'm about to go to bed.

Marmalade85 · 01/05/2016 00:42

These three slim food diaries look like you all eat very little (to me anyway). I'm trying to do 1,200 calories per day and I feel constantly hungry and agitated.

Interested to see more slim food diaries...

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 00:44

Craving green veg is pretty normal though. I remember salad dodging DS, then 16, coming home from a school residential trip saying he's was absolutely craving fruit and veg. Him and his mate were going on about it in the car when I picked them up. Badasses.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 00:46

Marmalade I doubt mine is much over 1200 calories. It's not very healthy though.

Marmalade85 · 01/05/2016 00:53

Tinkly have you always eaten like this? Is it a conscious decision?

Marmalade85 · 01/05/2016 00:54

Tinkly Also, what do you do with 2/3 tin of tuna?!

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 01:01

Hmm, I normally eat a bit better, normally something like a chicken salad wrap for lunch. Normally something home cooked and vaguely healthy for dinner. But not a big portion.

I would rather have small portions of something really tasty than big portions of something worthy though. So I'd eat a mini pork pie but not a big bowl of bland pasta, or a chunk of cheese and some pickled onions rather than a doughy cheese roll. If I'm on my own, like most of today, I just eat bits. I have four kids though, so mostly I try and set a good example when they are around.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 01:03

Ha, DH and DS came home and I got a bit of supper together for us all, so they shared the rest of the tuna. I was quite stingy with the tuna, but they had lots of cheese too.

Marmalade85 · 01/05/2016 01:06

Two people shared the 2/3 leftover tin of tuna ShockI don't think I have what it takes to be slim.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 01:06

God I just realised I just eat fat and salt and chocolate left to my own devices. That's slightly worrying.

seoulsurvivor · 01/05/2016 01:07

Size 6/8 (5ft1 and weigh 7ish stone).

Eat whatever I feel like. The key is not eating unless I'm hungry. I don't need to try to do this, I just naturally don't do it. I have realised that many people who struggle with weight will continue eating even though they are full. That literally makes me feel sick, so I stop even if I still have half a meal on my plate. I think that's the difference.

I also basically walk everywhere.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 01:09

No DH and DS eat loads, but exercise loads so they are quite skinny. DH was very Hmm at the tuna and had lots of cheese and a large potato.

TinklyLittleLaugh · 01/05/2016 01:11

Plus DH had been to the football so probably necked a pie at lunchtime. Tuna is a red herring Grin

OllyBJolly · 01/05/2016 01:18

Not a usual day as we had a family lunch... and I'm feeling stuffed.

Cornflakes

MusselsLivornese
Macaroni Cheese
Garlic Bread
2 x soda water and lime
Birthday cake

Chicken stir fry
2 x chocolates
2 x glasses of red wine (double the usual but in recovery from a day with the inlawa)
