6 mins over time in supermarket car park at 50 fine

So as per the title, I've been charged almost 10 pounds a min.

I did however buy fuel before parking so I wasn't actually parked for over the 2 hour limit. Didn't know it counted from the second you went into the car park that contains the petrol station.

Worth appealing?

BarbaraofSeville - yes it totally is. Supermarkets make about 3% on shopping so it would of had too prevent someone from spending £1666 odd and I was parking there off peak where there were plenty of spaces.

This happened to me and my friend. My friend complained to the supermarket manager and he got our fines cancelled.

GetInFormationLadies · 28/04/2016 14:59

There are some real thickos about, aren't there ?

Nice. Twat

I've successfully appealed these sorts of fines too, OP, even when the appeals process has lasted a while so the fine has in effect doubled while it was being sorted.

I was tempted to go down the same route you're thinking of - of explaining person circumstance, but actually I don't think it's worth it. It's none of their business. Just go through the appeals process as is, safe in the knowledge that it's very very common that these fines aren't enforced if you challenge the company.

GoblinLittleOwl · 28/04/2016 19:05

Make a complaint to the supermarket and make sure you tell everyone and don't shop there again.
The carpark is probably leased to a company unconnected with the shop.

OnTheEdgeOfItAll · 28/04/2016 19:12

Contact the supermarket, with copies of your receipts for petrol and shopping. Ask them nicely to cancel the fine. That is the easiest route. If not successful, then you can appeal. Easiest is to contact supermarket by phone and offer to email receipts.

Buzzardbird · 28/04/2016 19:13

It's a non-issue. The supermarket will cancel it with proof of purchase (even without in our case 4 weeks ago when we lost the receipt and had paid cash.)

did you spend 2 hours in the supermarket?

miasdaddy · 28/04/2016 20:04

Appeal if you look at the code of practice for these company's they say that you should have a fifteen minute leeway before they ticket you

Amy214 · 28/04/2016 21:47

Downstairsmixup i kept recieving letters and in the second letter the fine doubled then a few letters later it went back down to the original fine (kept ignoring) i already sent a letter stating why i didnt agree and why i wasnt paying (wasnt even over time it was because i was parked in a disabled bay with a disabled badge that happened to fall down slightly so he couldnt see the whole thing it was still displayed in the window) i only recieved one letter from a debt collectors that was almost triple the original fee but if i paid in 14 days i only had to pay double (cant remember exactly) the original was £80. I havent heard anything about court or further actions being taken and i assume they have written it off as a loss. At the time when i done my research it basically stated the only fines you need to pay are police issued ones.

SuckingEggs · 28/04/2016 21:54

I followed MSE and wasn't fined.

Hardly twatty.

tacal · 29/04/2016 10:37

GetInFormationLadies it was Morrisons. I think my friend showed the manager our receipts as proof we had been in the café and then both done a lot of shopping. Good luck!

Sorry, I got distracted by work.

Supermarkets here are mostly paid parking - get a ticket on the way in and pay for the time as you leave (although you get an hour free if you spend reasonable money in the supermarket). Or pay-and-display.

There are a few which are not pay-parking. Big ones, with lower demand (and lower options to doss about taking up spaces for uses other than shopping).
