I paid in a cheque in US$ to our joint bank account.
The cheque is payable to me, paid in by me.

They send a letter to Mr R FV45 about it.

I am fuming! How can a bank in this day and age default to the man for a joint bank account?

We are mid divorce so I am reacting strongly (he was all aggressive about it - probably didn't read that it was money IN) but FFS!

Anyway, it had galvanised me into moving the bills to my account since I pay for everything anyway.

I wonder what their response will be when I call tomorrow.

Maybe because there's not much to clean out they've just left it alone?

It should be more a matter of procedure. It is to safeguard all parties. We would stop any type of account, be it personal, business or charity if we were aware of any issues concerning it. The assumption is that parties to a joint account are in agreement, if the account is for either one to sign to operate it. If the bank is advised of a forthcoming divorce or one party has left the home, then that would mean that the parties were not in agreement.

That does make sense. I wonder why they are not doing that with this account then. I have been entirely honest with them.

Well, it will be a moot point soon as I'm going to transfer everything to my personal account (not Barclays) and we shall close the joint one and I shall never open anything joint again.
