Cat shitting on front lawn every morning!!!

martha16 · 27/04/2016 09:04

I do not expect to get up and have to pick up diarrhoea cat/dog (I assumed cat but someone said they bury it?) every morning!! It stinks, it's vile. I'm pregnant so shouldn't be touching it anyway!!

We had builders doing the front path and not once in the four days they pooped on the grass!!! As soon as they have done its back at it! We have a mental fence up at the front so no idea how it's happening if it was a dog, although sometimes the poop (a cat and dog?) look different and sometimes both at the same time!! Iv tried smelly beads that didn't work! House is a brand new build, grass only been laid 6 weeks, why aren't they doing it to next door!?

I think it's something to do with the reflections from the water?

girlywhirly · 27/04/2016 10:16

Cats don't always cover their poo, if it is right in the middle of an open space they are scent marking their territory as a warning to other cats to keep off. They will also do this if there has been a disruption in their territory such as ground work or building. It could be a different cat each day, if there is a 'battle' over the territory between them.

DameDiazepamTheDramaQueen · 27/04/2016 10:38

I love the smell of moth balls, have them in our cupboardsGrin

You're welcome

You can get Wilko cat and dog repellent granules - smell of garlic I think we found this one of the cheaper options.

The also do a version of the citrus socked pointed sticks you can get.

The lemon scented gel sometimes worked as well - though harder to cover a big lawn area IME.

If you have an outside tap - the water crow could be an option movement sensor which squirt water.

Didn't have much luck with the sonic sensor - though I think one of the cats might have been old and hard of hearing.

Clearing the stuff up and trying to get rid of any residue smells - is a good idea too.

We had a huge issue with cats on lawns not covering - our was one of the few gardens with no resident dog or cat so I think was fought over territory. We saw through windows and caught cats in the act of pooing and not covering and people on her still insisted it must have been foxes.

lantien · 27/04/2016 10:49

www.amazon.co.uk/Contech-ScareCrow-Motion-Activated-Deterrent/dp/B005MW9VOM - if you have a tap to hook it too.

BillyGoatGruff007 · 27/04/2016 10:53

WhyCantIUseTheNameIWant - thanks, I've always wondered why...and it only took me 20 years to have the answer.

ceebie · 27/04/2016 11:10

I have the same problem. Definitely cat, not fox, as our hens would have been eaten if it was a fox. No access for it to be a dog. And yes its on the lawn, not buried.

I worried that the sonic sensor would affect wildlife - we have hedgehogs and squirrels.

It sounds like we live in the country - we don't, it's a typical suburban area.

I'll have to get one of those water sensor things. But we only have one outdoor tap, and I need deterrents in both the front and back garden...

ceebie · 27/04/2016 11:11

Woah - £108 for a water sensor thing? Forget that.

happysunshineandrainbows · 27/04/2016 11:12

I bloody hate cats but most people on my street have them. When I first moved into my house I must have picked up a bin bag full of their shit whilst the little fuckers stalked about like they own the bloody place. Now I have a dog and they don't come into the garden to poo now, instead they go up the top of my drive and shit there instead (the dog doesn't go up there) and it is so annoying having to pick it up. If I let my dog shit in people's garden then I'd have GLL to pay but for some reason it's ok cause they're cats. No! Get a sodding litter tray and deal with your pets shit, stop passing on the buck...or better yet don't get a cat!!

I found lion poo (dried from the garden centre) worked but it needs topping up when it rains. Water pistols work too (and you do feel a bit better if you manage to get the crapper)

t4gnut · 27/04/2016 11:15

If its overnight it'll be fox or cat. Even if a built up area you'd be amazed how many foxes are around - they're blatent.

High powered waterpistol and a stakeout. Or see if you can borrow/buy a cheap digital camera to record overnight and confirm.

MetalMidget · 27/04/2016 11:22

Cat poo stinks, and they quite often don't bury it. It's massively annoying, and it infuriates me that people allow their cats to roam and defecate in other people's gardens.

Fox poo, however, makes cat poo smell lovely in comparison, and often tends to be runnier. Foxes often live in urban areas as well as rural ones.

VeryPunny · 27/04/2016 11:27

Why on earth are people thinking it's fox poo? I thought the OP had seen the cat shitting everywhere. Yes, you do get foxes in urban areas, but nowhere near as many as there are cats. I don't understand the logic: you see cats frequently, shit appears on lawn, therefore it must be foxes which you never see???Hmm

Buzzardbird · 27/04/2016 11:27

She's disgusting. How she gets so much work on TV is beyond me.

charlestonchaplin · 27/04/2016 11:29

8 million cats versus about 240,000 foxes (only 14% in urban areas). There is a collective blindness to the significant problems caused by humans wanting living breathing cuddly toys.

whois · 27/04/2016 11:29

I bet it's fox pooh not cat pooh and yes it stinks

Pooh? Pooh???? You're not sounding 'proper' or 'cute' by calling it 'pooh'.

MetalMidget · 27/04/2016 11:37

Why on earth are people thinking it's fox poo? I thought the OP had seen the cat shitting everywhere.

From the OP:

The kids now play a game of spot the poo when we go to do the school run every morning. Iv never seen the cat(s) that do it?! i actually haven't seen any cats round this street. I'm guessing they do it under the cover of darkness 😒

You're right though, it probably is cat poo, it is more likely.

We send the dog out if we spot a cat in the garden - it's reduced the amount of poo considerably!

Doreta2G · 27/04/2016 11:37

I had a cat poo problem. I put a load of cut up lemon on the ground for a couple of weeks. I haven't had a cat poo since. I've just cleared them up (it did look pretty messy) so I'm interested to see if they come back now or whether they're gone for good.

Micah · 27/04/2016 11:38

The o/p says she "assumes" it cat. Not that she has seen a cat.

Its definately fox in my garden, they're blatant, and it's quite different to cat poo.

If it's a brand new estate i would have thought fox, as their territory will be disrupted, cats wont be established yet. Plus she says its runny, so more like fox.

FurryMint · 27/04/2016 11:52

The motion activated water scarecrow things recommended by lantien work brilliantly. I've used them for years and have a shit free garden. I don't use them in the winter as they can break if they get frozen but the garden still stays clear of shit. They vary in price a lot so watch out for offers.

FurryMint · 27/04/2016 11:55

Shock Shock
OMG. - I've just seen the water sensor thing is currently priced at over £100 on Amazon....

  • well I did say it varies in price a lot. Shock They are usually £40 - £50 but I bought my last ones from Amazon for £35 inc p&p. There are other brands about too.
lantien · 27/04/2016 12:14

I lined to that one as it was first one that came up - very sure one we bought was no where near that expensive - sure it was around £35.

Our tap was just inside the garage - so it worked but no attachment would stop the leaking so ended up with soaked garage floor - worked out it was tap itself so while a good product didn't work out for us Sad.

That one is only £20 with free delivery Smile.

AppleSetsSail · 27/04/2016 12:19

Cats have the right to roam so we all just have to be happy about cleaning up their poo, even though they are domestic animals having actual owners.

FurryMint · 27/04/2016 12:33

Cats have the right to roam so we all just have to be happy about cleaning up their poo

Lol, Confused. I don't think so. Grin I see it more as if the cats think it's ok to shit in my garden they have to be happy to get squirted by a action motivated water jet.

I'm more happy with that than a shitty garden.
