To think my MIL shouldn't put DDs shoes on the highchair tray?

Went to pick DD up from MIL today. MIL went to get Dds shoes which were sat on top of the highchair tray! As far as I'm concerned shoes should go no where near a surface that food will be eaten off. Was so shocked I didn't say anything. AIBU to be repulsed by this and think she shouldn't be doing it?

My 10 month old has been known to lick shoes if she can get hold of them. Get a grip. You're looking for problems with the woman.

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 27/04/2016 08:23

Jessie My nana used to say the sameGrin... I actually thought that this thread was going to be about that, which is why I came on for a look l.

Artandco · 27/04/2016 08:26

Wouldn't bother me. You should be putting child's food in a bowl or plate anyway not straight on the tray. You wouldn't just throw your food directly on the table would you

RNBrie · 27/04/2016 08:28

New shoes on the table IS bad luck. Like seeing a single magpie or breaking a mirror.

Old shoes on the table is a total non-issue.

Junosmum · 27/04/2016 08:38

Massive over reaction. I don't use a plate or bowl (more to throw) so do put food on the tray directly but always clean it both directly before and after use, it's hardly difficult. And yes, I do put shoes on the dining table occasionally, but that too wipes clean. YABU.

diddl · 27/04/2016 08:39

Does she eat directly off the tray & if so is MIL likely to just remove shoes & put food directly on tray?

If so, yuk!

If not, meh!

HeffalumpHistory · 27/04/2016 08:42

Completely agree op, yanbu!

My mil did this & also changed dniece nappy in kitchen Envy despite being told how rank it was she still did it all the time Angry

Buttons23 · 27/04/2016 08:47

Meh I couldn't get that shocked and repulsed by it. Highchair are easily cleaned and most people give it a wipe before use anyway.

Certainly not something that would send me looking for other childcare.

NoCapes · 27/04/2016 08:50

Absolute non event
Can't believe this even registered in your head as something to remember
Your life must be so dull

Wdigin2this · 27/04/2016 08:57

Well, OK, it's probably not the best idea, but you can easily wipe down the tray surface with antibacterial wipes....no probs. Frankly, if your MIL is looking after your child, and that's all she does to shock you....you're damn lucky!

thenappyslayer · 27/04/2016 08:59

Yuck.....
Hardly a travesty though.

Peppaismyhomegirl · 27/04/2016 09:00

A grip is needed here OP, from you. A total non event. I'm actually laughing at you

MyLocal · 27/04/2016 09:03

Oh dear, picks shoes off counter top and walks away looking embarrassed...

LittleMoonbuggy · 27/04/2016 09:05

FGS, some people are just determined to find fault with their MILs in seems.

If it was a fabric tray then fair enough, but I assume it was an ordinary plastic or wooden tray that can easily be wiped down. In which case, get a grip.

Beth2511 · 27/04/2016 09:07

Our highchair gets used to store all manner of crap in between meal times, but it gets cleared and properly cleaned before any food touches it!

Dd still likes to suck her shoes....

thatsforsure · 27/04/2016 09:08

yesterday I saw 3 clients facing the loss of their home one who's husband has just died, a family of 5 in a 1 bed b and b room waiting for rehousing, a woman who is terminally ill trying to ensure her children are going to be cared for when she dies and a 19year old trying to stay in the family home after the death of her mum.
What i am trying to say is that you clearly dont have enough to worry about.

PaulAnkaTheDog · 27/04/2016 09:11

No op?

MrsJayy · 27/04/2016 09:14

Children put all sorts in their mouths your dc didnt have shit on their shoes and a quick skoosh of spray will clean the tray im not sure its something to get overly worked up over have a cup of sweet tea to get over your shock and calm down.

RuthyToothy · 27/04/2016 09:28

How does that work, then? How does the shoe/table interface influence the events of your life? Hmm

Notso · 27/04/2016 09:33

Gotta love mumsnet.
Shoes on a floor...filthy bastards.
Shoes on a highchair...hell yeah.
Grin

OP life is too short, have a Brew

Artandco · 27/04/2016 09:46

Not - but highchair is plastic and tiny so can be wiped over each time. Floors you aren't going to wash while floor every time you let baby crawl on it. As its a highchair you would also assume it's for a baby so they aren't exactly hiking in shit are they

Notso · 27/04/2016 09:55

The vast majority of shoeless households don't have crawling babies though Art

Artandco · 27/04/2016 09:57

Well maybe. But many have children. Mine are primary school age but still crawl around and play on the floor whilst playing games so I wouldn't want shoes on the floor as all kinds of crap spread around house. On table it's in one place, and you can just wipe that one spot after

RuthyToothy · 27/04/2016 10:00

Who's to say that the posters commenting on this post have shoeless households? I certainly don't. I'm more uncomfortable with the friend who takea her shoes off in my house then puts her bare stinky feet on my sofa!

If that even registered enough to push you into posting, then be grateful that you live a blissful existence.
