I covered my friend paying for something about aI sent him and others my bank details on a group message a couple of days before I knew they would be paid (18th April). Everyone else paid on that date and messaged in the group that they had paid me back. He made an excuse that he needed to put it in a different account and do it the next day. Another friend said that he would be paying for him too ask he owed him money.

both friends are like brothers to me and I'm happy to cover the other one whilst he's being shit about paying back. He will send the money he's just being lazy and can't be bothered to go to the bank... It's annoyed me that he assumes just because I don't need the money that he can assume an extension

These are not great friends. Sounds like he is using you

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 26/04/2016 19:46

It's not at all unreasonable to tell him how you feel and pull him up on his behaviour.
He owes you an apology as well as the money.

PlumDogMillionaire · 26/04/2016 19:52

Arghh just called him to have a right old go and he's just like 'sorry you know I'm a bad comminicator and I've been ill this weekend'

You know I had a couple of pals like that once, I adored both of them and had such a good time with them. They were brothers ironically.

They were both parasites, looking back I was the one who paid for the taxi, or the beer, the go to when they wanted to lend something or anything else. I didn't see it until I woke up and started saying no.

The friend relying on another friend to pay is not your problem, they owe you 40 quid each. Send them a message saying you want the cash by X date, no bank thing and if it doesn't happen then you'll miss them but maybe next time.

No pay no play.

PigletJohn · 26/04/2016 19:57

use Ilovetorrentialrain 's idea.

But add "I don't want to get stuck with the outstanding amount"

And find out if you can cancel them off the booking.

I hope you won't be paying for them ever again.

ILostItInTheEarlyNineties · 26/04/2016 20:05

Bogeyface is right upthread. He's now making you feel unreasonable and demanding. Stick to your guns OP, you are in the right here and have been let down.

GinAndLemon · 26/04/2016 20:09

The problem is he is unreasonable, difficult and rude and he admits it. Everyone knows he is yet we all love him and he is 'our boy'... Everyone just says oh thats just him you know what he's like don't get wound up by it

PlumDogMillionaire · 26/04/2016 20:10

Oops added that on my new account on my laptop this is an old account logged in on my phone... Can you tell I'm great with technology

There is always one of these arses that ruins it most people I know who have laid out the upfront for a group trip have had trouble recouping the loss

A friend ghosted on me over a concert ticket it was agreed I'd book - an expensive one. In the end I told her she couldn't come. I think she'd been expecting me to feel bad and just let her go.

I did end up feeling bad as my other friends boyfriend took pity stepped in to cover the cost and came even though he wasn't keen. It was a crap concert and a waste.

He doesnt pay, he doesnt go.

GinAndLemon · 26/04/2016 20:17

It's not really my call to kick him out of the holiday... I am not the one organising it and it is a very big group of us... I just covered some deposits so we could secure the villa

GinAndLemon · 26/04/2016 20:18

there I go again on the wrong account

TendonQueen · 26/04/2016 20:22

It's as much your call as anyone's.
Probably more so as presumably it's your name the deposit has been made in. And in does being ill stop anyone using online banking? Has he suddenly been afflicted with full body paralysis? Don't let his shitty excuses lie. Say there is someone else wanting to come and they can pay tomorrow, so unless he pays tonight they'll take his place. Don't feel bad about lying - he didn't - and you'd easily find a replacement anyway.

EverySongbirdSays · 26/04/2016 20:23

OP, if you've paid his place, it is ENTIRELY your call as to if he keeps it.

PlumDogMillionaire · 26/04/2016 21:44

Thanks to all for your words of advice and helpful suggestions. I've told him not to accept someone's kindness when you can't even offer decency in return

So he has fobbed you off again.

Well if you don't need the money write it off to him just bring 'your boy'

Im glad I don't have mates that take the piss like that. He really treating you like a mug and it sounds like you all encourage it!

What ever floats your boat hey!

PinkheartsPinkfarts · 27/04/2016 02:37

I refused to lend my friend 100 quid a month back and i have been feeling bad but threads like this are why people don't.
I hope he does pay you back, its so easy to borrow money but to repay it seems like the borrower has to do all the hard work most times.

Cornishclio · 27/04/2016 07:28

Dont lend money to friends or relatives unless it is money you are prepared to lose. Some people are just dreadful with money and don't regard paying debts as priority. the fact this friend has now refused to pay back both you and your other friend makes me think he is either hoping you will both forget it or is in dire circumstances. Either way he should not be coming on holiday. I would ask someone else who does pay their debts and tell the other guy he has to pay his £40 too as friend 2 did not cover his payment either. What a palaver. Also don't dismiss it well that is just what he is like, he is an inconsiderate idiot and I would look to ditch him immediately.

JolieColombe · 27/04/2016 07:38

Uncharitable me is wondering if the friend already owed by chancer mate is passing on the debt because he's had the same difficulty getting his money back. And now it's 'officially' your problem Hmm

Cloudstasteofmash · 27/04/2016 08:12

Absolutly jolie

Op how old are you all ?

AnyFucker · 27/04/2016 08:21

Never a borrower nor a lender be...

bibbitybobbityyhat · 27/04/2016 08:47

God he sounds like an utter loser. Why on earth would you want to go on holiday with a numpty like that?
