To worry about cat haters hurting my cat?

Just been reading an awful article about the Croydon cat killer. I always worry that someone who doesn't like cats (there are a lot of them) may try to hurt my cat when he's outside, maybe whils he's wandering into their gardens. I worry about him being poisoned, or abused.

He has a litter tray which he uses but I can't guarantee that he isn't peeing/pooing in people's gardens, and I worry that some cat haters might hurt him. AIBU?

I hate having to clear cat poo from my garden before the kids can go and play so I will chase cats out of the garden but I wouldn't dream of hurting them. I think most people are similar no malice. In your shoes I'd keep them in over night

I hate cats especially when they shit añd scrape up my plants, however I do have a super soaker but other than get the furry fuckers wet I wouldn't hurt them.

I hate cats, but I would never hurt one! I think people that harm animals are psychopaths and hopefully few and far between.

Our cat is a happy indoor cat. No way would I let her roam around here with busy roads, dogs, other cats and lots of around. Neighbour's cat was ran over another neighbour's cat was mauled by a dog. A friends cat constantly gets into fights with other cats and foxes, so has frequent visits to the vet with various wounds and injuries.Plus, don't want to sour neighbour relationships with poo in gardens...

Lots of people, even.

I hate cats and don't believe they should be kept as pets as like yourself it isn't possible for owners to guarantee they aren't shitting in peoples gardens.
I'd never hurt one though, but will take steps to keep them out of my garden as they are uncontrollable like rodents.
One person's fluffy cat is anothers nightmare.

If you care about your cat so much keep it inside where it is safe from traffic and random nutcases. Most people won't intentionally harm an animal but some horrible people will and others (like the poor pp who ran over a cat) may unintentionally.

We're in Croydon and I worry so much about my mum's beautiful cat.

She doesn't go far... mostly just in the garden but you can't be certain of that. But she also has particular spots where she poos, so I'm pretty sure she's not out wreaking poo devastation everywhere Hmm. As for animals pooing in gardens, the foxes do that and it's more smelly and indiscriminate.
