Almost 5 year old boy keeps drawing on the walls and doors. I have tried punishing. I have tried providing endless amounts of paper. I have confiscated all writing implements (he still found some, God only knows where from!). I have tried supplying him with many pens, crayons and wax Crayons in a big box with lots of paper and card and activity books. We had a house inspection done by housing and the drawings were obviously noticed. We were told to sort it, given a month to do so. Decorated most of the house. Day before next inspection the little shit he drew all up the stairs again with a pen I have no idea where he had it stashed. So been allowed another month to 'finish sorting the drawings' at which point if there is still drawing on the walls the witch is going to present us with a notice to seek possession. So spent all last week painting over drawings again. We have explained this to the child, he promises he won't do it. Explained to the other 3 children that any pens or crayons they find are to be given straight to mummy or daddy. So today he has done it again Angry

Ideas?? Please??

Ignore it. Buy some paint and paint in the hpurs before inspection happens.

He gets attention from it so will keep doing it.
Give him attention for doing other things nicely.

Haha hate to lighten it, but some of these kids should totally be lawyers!

Pens in a tin and put on a high shelf.

ThinkYouKnowMe · 25/04/2016 19:45

what about buying him one of those cheap kids easels on a stand, think smyths toys do them. Make a big deal out of it, say the best is going on display etc?

Chinese finger trap until after the inspection Grin

I would get a job lot of magnolia paint and just spit paint over the area as it happens and not even acknowledge it.

Perhaps give him a soapy cloth and make him clean up. If it doesn't come off easily, he might learn his lesson.

Magic erasers ate excellent for this sort of thing.

Could it be a compulsion? When I was a small child I used to peel the threads off of the carpet in my room. I completely ruined all the carpet beneath my bed (that parents couldn't see) so was forced to move to more visable areas Blush

I got bollocked every time I did it, but I really just couldn't help myself, I had to do it.

I'm not sure if it's the same but I know that "bollocking" didn't stop me from doing it, it didn't stop the urge or the need to do it either.

I can't offer advise but I do remember mine drawing on the walls a lot. She's nearly 4 and I've managed to get through to her the last 6 months or so not to do it. I made her help clean the mess and she saw how hard it could be to remove it (baby wipes and washing up liquid for pen and crayon).

For now, maybe rolls of paper on the walls that can be removed and changed will help?

YelloRoses · 25/04/2016 22:42

can you buy him a chalk board?

Littlefluffyclouds81 · 26/04/2016 00:17

Cillit bang. I had multiple 'pieces of art' on the walls of my last rented house, cillit bang got them off leaving no trace, with minimal effort.

Also worked the time dd2 draw in felt tip all over the posh white sun lounger at a holiday house in France. Tried all the normal cleaning products which did fuck all...then BANG...and the dirt was gone.
