I'm horrified at the news of looters (small group) stealing from the London Marathon water station at Deptford! Some adults are using their child's pram to carry all of the bottles they're taking.
What will people do next year if this goes unpunished? Steal the runners' phones and trainers as they go past?!
The London Marathon Event Manager has said it will be investigated.

So before any investigation has been carried out, officials have called them thieving skanks?
Wow. For doing something that for years has been allowed?

The video does need investigating. Yes. The one that filmed it that is. On camera saying the water supply hasn't even arrived yet (then what was he filming) and the comments uploaded with the video.

I thought I was going crazy about what happens. But nope posters on fb and Twitter are saying the same thing. Since when did the water stopped being given away after the vehicles have passed?

I think it was DiscordiaVanDiemen who called them thieving skanks

What if it turns out to be absurdly simple?
It could be the Buxton reps first time on the floor so to speak and didn't know that the water is left to the spectators/locals to take.

I think for the sake of all the people who tolerate the Marathon every year giving the extra away after the runners have passed is a far quicker and cost efficient system of resuming normal service to the area than waiting for it to be loaded on to a truck?

Yes I called them thieving skanks. On account of their being thieving skanks Grin

People are imagining things that aren't there. Look at the footage again. There is no violence. No one is masked. I'm not sure anyone even has their hood up, though many of them are wearing jackets with hoods. Is that a crime these days? If so, I must stop wearing my cashmere hoodies; I wouldn't want to be mistaken for a rioter when I'm at the reduced aisle in Waitrose.

They are greedy twats.

I don't think they are. I wouldn't take the water, because I couldn't be bothered. But I go to supermarkets when I know there will be reductions. Does that make me a greedy twat, or just someone who'd prefer to pay £5 for a piece of steak that used to be £8?

Ok. You don't have do go fuck yourself, I don't mind Mnetters having strong opinions (even if they are wrong Wink). But Feltz would've so been on my shit list.

If caught they should be prosecuted. They will then be named assuming they are over 18.

20 actually. I'm older than I think

Are we sure they stole it? I went to the marathon and in walking back to the car, the people at the water station offered us spectators a bottle as they said it would k let go to waste?

We only took one bottle each though- not loads to carry off.

problem is Mnet doesn't like grabby, it Mnetland grabby is worse than stealing. So even if they weren't stealing they should still be named shamed and flogged for grabbiness.

I live very near here and they wasn't actually stealing it. People was told that when the last coach and supported runners had been through then they could help they selfs to what ever was left over. It happens every year just this year someone decided to record it and not put the truth out there. I still agree that people was greedy and should've only took one case but it certainly wasn't stealing.

I understand everything you've said MrsDV. Particularly in reference to loaded comments about people in hoodies. It's shorthand for young black men up to no good.

I also agree with you that not every poor person is greedy - far from it - and their behaviour wasn't the most edifying sight. My behaviour at prime reduction time in Sainsbury's - 7pm, but I'm giving it a miss tonight - could also be said to be unedifying. I can afford to pay £8 for a steak. I'd rather pay a fiver though. Should I leave it for someone less fortunate than myself?

If people want to get something free and try to flog it, then I don't care so long as they're not hurting anyone. In return I'd also like it if people didn't lie about them by calling them masked rioters and thieving skanks.

Don't forget putting a poem asking for cash in their wedding invitation.

I'm purely going by what the guy on the radio this morning said. He was being interviewed by Vanessa and he was something to do with the actual Marathon, he wasn't a bystander or a person who'd filmed the incident.
I haven't seen the videos myself or read any newspaper articles about it.

!MrsdeVere, Sorry , I disagree, I do not think it was either bizarre or irrelevant.

I am not going to get into a derailing argument on a side issue.

I find it very hard to believe that someone speaking for the company that organises The London Marathon, a worldwide brand with a noble reputation to uphold, would have used the words 'thieving skanks'.
