To ask what to do about the pill now?!

So I was meant to start a new BC pill this month.

Last night my BF and I were having sex when he noticed some blood on himself (sorry TMI) I went into the loo and there was definitely blood there and it felt like a period. Plus, I was three days past the date I was due to get my period anyway.

So I took the first pill.

Now all day today there has been NOTHING. no bleeding. Some very mild spots but nothing else.

I have a UTI and still new to sex- so maybe that's what the blood was?!

I don't know if I should take the second pill today? Or wait for when the period actually starts?

Seven days is for the combined 21 day pill. If taking progesterone pills you are covered after two days no matter when you start totaling them. See Nhs it's all on there

I would follow the advice about taking the pill from here

Even if you've been using condoms, they still have a surprisingly high failure rate, even with "perfect" usage.

I would do a pregnancy test OP.

Sorry if I was snippy MangeToot!!

I've had tonsillitis 4 times this year, multiple issues with periods, now a UTI.

I've also been diagnosed with severe iron deficiency anemia and thallesemia intermedia.

So I'm so snippy and stressed, please don't take it personal.

Sorry you've had a rough time, OP.

I think it would be prudent to POAS, just to be sure. Condoms are only 98% effective even when used perfectly (ie not by fallible humans!).

Oh and the only antibiotics that are proven to affect the pill are used to treat TB and leprosy.

That's interesting. I always had it drummed in to me by the GP when I was on the pill that antibiotics would affect it. Even the leaflet in the pill packet said so.

JenniferYellowShat · 25/04/2016 06:49

MrsFizzy regular antibiotics can affect the pill in that you may get the squits as a side affect of the antibiotics which could affect the absorption of the pill.

That's what I was told anyway, made sense.

Affect or effect? I've never managed to figure those out.

It can also depend on which type of pill you're on, I think many people are assuming you're on the combined pill, whereas things can be different if you're on a POP.
Ask a pharmacist if you can't get to a family planning clinic, they'll be able to discuss your situation better than strangers on a forum tbh.

As for "if sex hurts, don't do it " Hmm... Sex shouldn't hurt and may be indicative of something else going on in there. Make an appointment to see your GP
