I'd rather live here in this shitty old farmhouse with view of the Southern Uplands or in my house in Herts with views of a cricket field

I was reading an old thread last week about where people lived and was surprised how many people are in Sunderland.

RavioliOnToast · 22/04/2016 19:52

I often people watch in Debenhams Costa and think of who I think might be a MNetter Grin does Sunderland have a locals board? Or a meet up thread? I haven't noticed any

TattiePants · 22/04/2016 20:07

Hmm, there is a Sunderland board but it's not very active - the last post was 2015! I always fancied putting the shopping divider on the conveyor belt the wrong way / length wise in Sainsburys to see if anyone give me a knowing smile!

RavioliOnToast · 22/04/2016 20:11

I didn't know hat was a thing Tattie! Haha. Which sainsbos? Not the piddly little one in station road I'm guessing?

TattiePants · 22/04/2016 20:18

There was a thread ages ago where the OP put the separater thingy down the length of the conveyor belt instead of across the width and watched the person behind them in the queue twitch. I'm closest to Silksworth 'though I love the one on Wessington Way - it's always empty.

Very little of London is like that. Even the "ordinary rich" couldn't afford to live in Marylebone overlooking Regents Park.

One thing that pushes up prices in Marylebone is virtually none of it is for sale. Think nearly all of it is still owned by the Duke of Devonshire.

Eustace2016 · 23/04/2016 07:20

Yes,that's true. There are a lot of myths about living in London although it is certainly true it is more expensive than many parts of the UK at the lowest end for one bed flats and for semis even out here in an easily commutable outer London borough. It is an interesting time however as the April 2016 stamp duty land tax changes are already seeing a reduction in people rushing to buy and my daughters' flats in inner London have gone up less in the last 12 months than my house in outer London because people found the increases in the centre put them off so they moved a bit further out here.

So has anyone got any idea where the lamps are from? Love those purple shades and there's got to be knock offs somewhere Wink

Some areas of London the price increase has slowed down and some areas on the border the increase has been higher

It's for beyond ridiculous it will burst again and then 8-10 after we shall be asking ourselves the same questions

It's not that long ago that we were being told 100% mortgages were a thing of the past and only those who
had a large deposit will get high percentage mortgage this is not the case so drives a false economy that will collapse at some point

TattiePants · 23/04/2016 10:51

Pictures as promised - they are a bit rubbish but might give you an idea of flat fronted cupboards.

The London property market is bonkers but with some of these properties you're definitely buying more than just a house. ChazsBrilliantAttitude posted this one
www.rightmove.co.uk/property-for-sale/property-58580180.html
and these photos do the houses on this street no justice. Also it is right off Hampstead High Street. Hampstead doesn't feel like London at all yet you have all the amenities at your fingertips if you want it. Yes prices are insane but if you can afford it and there are those that can, media folk, business people, city workers I understand why you would buy this instead of a mansion in the country. Most people who live in areas like this work in London anyway so commuting is often out of the question or a huge pain.

Whatthefoxgoingon · 23/04/2016 17:24

I'd didn't bat an eyelid at that rental price. I've been living in London too long Grin

Turbinaria · 23/04/2016 17:28

Tattie what are your work tops made of?
