Woman sneezing loudly and not covering nose wwyd?!

SuperFlyHigh · 21/04/2016 18:59

I was out the other afternoon with my mum in sainsburys, popped round to see her and she said she wanted some bits so would I help carry. Fine I said.

So we're pushing a trolley round the aisles when suddenly we hear and see a woman (obviously the mum) and her adult DD pushing a trolley and the mum sneezing very loudly and not covering her mouth/nose or using a tissue at all.

If it had been once or twice then hey ho but she carried on round aisles got to fruit and veg and carried on sneezing. I think her DD was a bit embarrassed as she tried to distance herself. Anyway I know it wasn't just me judging as I heard another woman loudly complain and to the people on the deli counters. They just sighed and shrugged. Of course mum and I did shopping as quickly as we could then left the store.

I rang my mum on Monday and surprise surprise she has a bad cold (I have one too but not as bad).

Anyway would we have BU to complain to customer service staff? Should we have done so?! I get she was a paying customer.

The woman seemed a bit chavvy but not unusually so....

Thanks for reading!

grilled well seeing as my mum has RA and gets colds easily and is now on antibiotics because it went on her chest then I am pissed off as this woman could've infected her...

It wasn't just me making the comments either, the woman in front and the deli counter staff.

Nope doesn't make it better. Could be allergies rather than the cold. You still can't complain as you would look like a loon

wasonthelist · 21/04/2016 20:38

Start a petition, ring 101 and report...

dementedpixie · 21/04/2016 20:39

Maybe you gave her it or it could be any other random person a he was in close proximity to recently

dementedpixie · 21/04/2016 20:39

OP, if you go out in public there will be other humans there. Sometimes these humans will sneeze. I would suggest one of the following if this distresses you so much:

A) Building some sort of germ free hamster ball for you to roll around in to protect you from human sneezes.

B) Become a super rich recluse and send the staff out for shopping, which they will duly disinfect before bringing over the threshold of your home

C) Give your head a wobble

SuperFlyHigh · 21/04/2016 20:41

demented I really don't think it was allergies... The way she was walking and I think coughing too, they don't do that.

Like I said, another woman was making a comment, she was literally it was almost like she had a tic, going round sneezing very loudly not covering her mouth, nose etc at all, NO TISSUE, do you not think that's disgusting?!

This store has toilets, if you're that bad with sneezing go to the toilet and get bog roll from there.

TheWeeBaby I think if it was one or two or. Even three sneezes like I said, that would be different!!!

This woman was doing this repeatedly and spluttering and splattering loudly everywhere with the sneezing. So for 5-10 to 15 minutes, everyone was trying to avoid her.

Cmon so if any of you had seen her would you not think it was disgusting as she was not covering her mouth, nose or using a tissue!

Even her DD was avoiding her.

But hey AIBU.

Total difference from odd sneeze to loudly and obviously and rudely doing it.

Only on MN do you get this eh?!

Think I may defect to the other side - this place is seriously pissing me off right now.

Listen it might have been a bit much, but you're asking people what they would have done in the same situation, and the answer is... nothing. Honestly what would you want the store to do? The sneezer didn't do it maliciously and the store can't get involved just because you found it disgusting. It's not a crime.

And FWIW I have hayfever and can sneeze over 10 times in a row if it's a bad day, so it doesn't mean that the person had the dreaded lurgy or anything.

KayTee87 · 21/04/2016 20:53

It is disgusting but really sounds more like hay fever than a cold. If it bothered you that much you should have said something to the women at the time, politely offering her a tissue would have done the trick. You are being unreasonable to complain about it days later - what exactly do you expect customer services to do? Look her up on cctv and ban her? Confused

Ankleswingers · 21/04/2016 20:54

What a dirty biatch....

Seriously, chill out op.

SuperFlyHigh · 21/04/2016 20:55

Peoples reactions here though honestly it seems like a bun fight sometimes, I admit on some other threads this week I may have stirred the pot.

But normally when someone sneezes loudly and doesn't cover their nose etc that's a social faux pas at least in my book and others books and I'm not hyacinth bouquet.

MN has gone mad.

I,ve caught a stinking cold off my nearly six yr old who can I complain too should I phone the school and complain ConfusedGrin

SuperFlyHigh · 21/04/2016 20:59

KayTee I'm not saying I'd complain now just saying I found it rude and bad (no it didn't seem like hay fever seriously) and was I being out of order to object to it?

Obviously I was.

For what its worth I'd either hand her a tissue or if she didn't stop yes I would speak to CS and ask them to have a word.

I'd say the same if she were a posh nice bird in waitrose but this woman did look I don't know, like Waynetta Slob a bit, like she didn't give a shit. That was what pissed me off too.

And like I said OTHER PEOPLE WERE COMMENTING TOO!!!

It's the sainsbos in selhurst park crystal palace by the way next to football ground if anyone wants to know. Has a lovely cafe and toilets to sneeze to your hearts content.

KayTee87 · 21/04/2016 20:59

Super I agreed it's disgusting but you should have said something to her if it was going to bother you this much days later.

KayTee87 · 21/04/2016 21:01

Cross post

SuperFlyHigh · 21/04/2016 21:01

Oh FFS so if someone wanders round sneezing out loud like with a tic then you don't find that rude?!

Bloody hell... [biscuits] for the lot of ya.

since when does class dictate whether a person sneezes with or without a tissue or arm to cover her spontaneous sneezing? Stupid comment.

Its not nice true but a lot of other behaviours arent either like pp picking their nose in public or having their trousers so low you can see their upper class or chavvy pabts i really dont care about class cover ur arse please lol

Next time you are at thecheck out think the money in your hand mayhave the same mucus on it that the chavvy woman sneezed out, money is so filthy i try not to think about it

Sneezing without covering is the least of my worries i have a list longer than my arm of the disgustinh things my mil does granted she has dementia but i think some ofvthe behaviours are a part of who she is oy its exaggerated with her illness. So ican handle the sneezing asong as it doesnt splatter on my face ta

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 21/04/2016 21:03

So if she'd looked like Joanna Lumley then you'd have been OK with her sneezing? Hmm Are you scared of catching poor, because despite what the Daily Mail says it's not contagious?

SuperFlyHigh · 21/04/2016 21:05

TheweeBaby I just said further up thread I'd say or be the same if it was a posh bird like Joanna Lumley in waitrose.

But no denying it she was chavvy looking re her manners or lack of them. Trust me I know all about chavs in our area.

Google selhurst park near Croydon.

MovingOnUpMovingOnOut · 21/04/2016 21:09

Yes it's disgusting but what do you think customer services should do? Have some poor bastard in polyester with a name badge walk in front shouting "unclean, unclean" and another spraying dettol disinfectant in her wake?

Come on. People are disgusting. If you see one avoid but don't whinge to people who can do bog all about it!

TheWeeBabySeamus1 · 21/04/2016 21:10

Then why say this about how she looked? "like she didn't give a shit. That was what pissed me off too."

Why does how someone dresses piss you off? How does that it any way affect you?
