To invest in a super soaker

ConfuciousSayWhat · 21/04/2016 15:53

With the expressed intention of firing it at the local cats when they come into my garden?

I hate cats with a passion and more to the point hate cat shit everywhere.

I'm prepared for the onslaught from the cat lover brigade but a water pistol is the only way I can think of legally ridding myself of this vermin from my garden.

All other suggestions welcomed

I'm quietly having a flashback to a legendary thread Smile

TimeToMuskUp · 21/04/2016 16:35

Our four cats don't pee or poop in the house; they prefer my veg patch.

I've bought a super soaker with the express intention of forcing them to crap somewhere else (we have a huge garden, they can shit under any number of trees) so wouldn't object at all to the neighbours doing the same.

Do it! I've got 2 of the little buggers and giving them a good spray with water is the only thing that deters them from whatever they are doing.
It won't hurt them Grin

WhereYouLeftIt · 21/04/2016 16:57

Cat lover here, who used to own her very own supersoaker Grin!

It doesn't hurt them but they don't like it, and they're usually smart enough to figure out where not to go if the don't want to get wet within three soakings.

I used to use it to keep the local bruisers out of my garden so that my timid pair felt able to use their own garden.

WhyCantIuseTheNameIWant · 21/04/2016 17:04

Cat lover here.

I have sprayed mine inside with water. Teaching them not to put their grubby paws on my work surfaces

They don't like it but it doesn't hurt them.

My current one is a bit thick...

ValancyJane · 21/04/2016 17:07

I have a cat (though an odd one who isn't too phased by water!) and would have no issue with you squirting him with water if he was being a pain! Go for it :)

acasualobserver · 21/04/2016 17:33

I must say that's extraordinarily accommodating of you. If I see any of my neighbours crapping in the garden I shall call the police.

cats soon learn though. I have a super soaker to stop the cats around my bird feeding station. After a few goes, it was working well - just the sight of it made them run Then they waited until I had it ready before running away. Then they sat and ignored me until I actually got the door open and shot water at them. And then strolled off ....

SimpleSimonThePieMan · 21/04/2016 18:56

I like cats, but I'm so pissed off with them coming through my garden. My dogs (lurchers) are VERY likely to try and take a big bite out of one if they catch it, and this means I have to keep a really good eye out if they are outside

Wouldn't worry about keeping an eye out. We have a lurcher who is very cat aggresive, if a cat is brave enough to enter her garden then so be it, they run the risk of meeting a 40mph killing machine. I suspect either way they'll only do it once!

JuxtapositionRecords · 21/04/2016 19:01

I love cats (and have them) but they piss me off digging up the frigging garden to do their business. I say go for it. The problem is once they find a spot they like it's tricky to persuade them to move on!

Witchend · 21/04/2016 19:02

DF has a catapult he fires water bombs at them. He's quite a good shot and aims for ground close enough to spray them but not hurt.
Cats are intelligent animals, within a couple of months, all he has to do is twang the elastic now and they flee.

someonestolemynick · 21/04/2016 19:07

Another cat lover saying go for it. I had a lot of fun teaching them to leave the laundry alone.Halo

CutYourHairAndGetAJob · 21/04/2016 19:07

Do it, I love cats but I have a water pistol to spray the bastard cat who scares mine from using her own garden. It annoys them but doesn't cause any harm so it's fine imo. If my cat came home wet I would assume she had done something to deserve it Grin

DiscoMoo · 21/04/2016 19:17

Shortly after my dad died, and DM was getting used to being in the house alone, she was frightened a couple of times by her neighbour's cat that got into her house through open windows (one time it was in her bedroom and shot past her when she was on her way to bed). Poor DM was keeping her windows closed in a sweltering summer to prevent being scared. So I bought her a water pistol and she had great fun shooting the cat with water. It didn't take the cat long to learn.

corgiology · 21/04/2016 19:23

Send the owner the bill. Why should you pay for it?

MrsKoala · 21/04/2016 19:38

I love cats, i used to have one and he was a menace to our neighbours cats so i bought the neighbour a super soaker to squirt him.

I'm getting a dose of karma now as dh is allergic to cats so we can't have any, which means our garden is the local cat toilet and bird/rodent dismemberment zone. If the sand box lid isn't weighed down with bricks they push it off and fill it with turds. It is extra annoying as we have astroturf and the feathers and blood area bugger to clean off. The dc are 1 and 3 and i have to go out and clean up every time i just want to let them play outside.

FlowersAndShit · 21/04/2016 19:52

I worry about cat haters hurting my cat by poisoning him or physically hurting him whenever I leave him outside Sad. I wouldn't mind if someone squirted my cat with water as it won't harm him.

insertimaginativeusername · 21/04/2016 20:01

My cat was poisoned by a particularly evil neighbour...I would have much preferred him to use a water pistol to stop cat venturing into his gardenAngry

Junosmum · 21/04/2016 20:09

Do it (said as an owner of 3 cats).

EveryoneElsie · 21/04/2016 20:23

You can also make fake cat shapes with arched backs and big staring eyes, and fake owls. They also hate those but you have to move them frequently.
They hate clove oil and orange oil . You can soak compost water retaining crystals in them. Put that in yoghurt pots around the place, with loose foil hats to keep the rain out.
