I gave up last week. Well, im on an electronic.

Just found a multipack of 100 that my friend brought me back from Greece last summer. I thought id left them, but no- soon as I quit, they turn up.

😩

It's not just the burning of the money that the multipack represents, it's the burning of about £50 a week after smoking the multipack gets you hooked again. That's over £200 a month, depending how many you smoke and what brand. In a year of not smoking you'll save something like £2800. You could go on a nice holiday.

Take the multipack to an outside bin and dump it. And have a look at some holiday destinations online and start fantasising!

I quit smoking last week as well. It feels like shite. But we can do it!
Dump the multipack! Dump the multipack!

MarvellousCake · 20/04/2016 14:45

Because it's really old-fashioned. No-one smokes any more. Certainly not you.

girlandboy · 20/04/2016 14:45

Bin them and don't worry about the £50 they cost you. You've spent it, it's gone.
Don't undo the good work you've done in quitting. Well done by the way!

I had a tour round a mortuary once (don't ask) and saw some smokers lungs sitting in a dish. They were black and crispy, like a black Crunchie bar, but oozing tar into the dish. Every smoker should see that!

Don't give in!!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 20/04/2016 14:49

Get rid of them now, get them wet either in the kitchen sink or hose them off.
I managed to quit by various combinations of all of the above. I've been quit for over a year now, mostly assisted by pregnancy, and I still think about fags a few times a week. Never give up giving up. Remember how disgusting they are and why you want to quit not how delicious they are on a sunny day in a beer garden.....sorry

CakeNinja · 20/04/2016 14:53

Send them to me away and they'll be all gone!

Or what everyone else said, it's all true Smile

FlyRussianUnicorn · 20/04/2016 14:58

Yes the quote is friends. Glad im not the only saddo. I typed it out to a friend without even realising and then the penny dropped Grin

Staying strong. Flowers to everyone who has suffered due to the habit.

mummytime · 20/04/2016 14:59

Do you have kids?
Because I used to hate cuddling my Mum too close because I could then hear the wheeze in her breathe, and it would worry me. She had no idea just how worried I was for most of my childhood because of her smoking.

SeaCabbage · 20/04/2016 15:08

It's one of the hardest things to stop so don't feel bad if you are finding it hard.

Having said that, loads of us have managed it.

It is actually more stressful to smoke than to be a non smoker. You never have to have a fag. It's great!

I found Allen Carr helpful.

Don't hang out with smokers.

If you have children, well surely it's a no-brainer?

Good luck. With regard to the 100 fags, if you've already given up, pass them onto a friend. Quickly!

MrsMainwaring · 20/04/2016 15:14

Go and buy something special with the money you've saved from smoking
I did that every month to reward myself
Give the fags away , you won't be needing them

positivity123 · 20/04/2016 15:19

Because you are a non smoker who doesn't want a cigarette.

Stay strong

AlwaysDancing1234 · 20/04/2016 15:19

We recently lost two close relatives in the space of a month to smoking related illnesses. Having to try and explain the deaths to DS whilst looking at his heartbroken face made me wonder why anyone would ever be stupid enough to knowingly and willingly destroy their lungs and cause a painful and potentially premature death.

noeffingidea · 20/04/2016 15:22

I quit 11 years after being a very heavy smoker.
If I was in your position now I would go and get them, open each packet, break them into 2 and dump them in a bowl of washing up water (or bleachy water or similar). That way they are gone for ever, they can no longer tempt you. Then bin them, obviously.
Best of luck giving up. Seriously, it is the single best thing you can do for yourself and your family, no matter how hard it might feel at times.
It was hard for me for about 4 months then I actually started to feel good about being a non smoker.
My only advice is, never never never have 'just the one'. For most smokers just one is enough to start the habit off again.

Miiaaoow · 20/04/2016 15:33

Healthy lungs + smokers lungs. Which would you prefer?

To ask you all to remind me why i must not smoke?
notagiraffe · 20/04/2016 15:37

You now smell good. your breath, your hair, clothes and skin no longer stink of stale smoke. And open your purse! There's ££££ in it. When I gave up I kept wondering where all this money was appearing from in my purse. Hadn't realised how much richer I'd be immediately.

Nanny0gg · 20/04/2016 15:39

Because you don't want to die of emphysema.

You really don't.

LadyCatEyes · 20/04/2016 15:49

Because smoking is disgusting, expensive and deadly. That fifty quid is a drop in the ocean compared to what you will be saving by giving up!

You can do it!

HawthornLantern · 20/04/2016 15:57

Mum died of COPD. She had given up smoking but not soon enough. It is a horrible condition. It is no way to die.

And in the meanwhile, you will have much more disposable cash Smile

Well done on the first week - you can do it!

Babyroobs · 20/04/2016 16:04

Because dying of lung cancer, head or neck cancer, copd or any other horrible smoking related illness gasping for breath is horrible. I have worked on oncology/ palliative care wards for almost 30 years now and the vast majority of patients I ahve seen die from these illnesses ( and there have been many)were heavy smokers. I would bin them/ burn them forget about the cost they will be detrimental to anyone who smokes them.

Loula117 · 20/04/2016 16:05

All of the above nasty health/death related reasons plus VANITY! It makes you look so old, with crows feet and a cat's bum mouth. Who wants avoidable wrinkles?

Well done, you have done the hardest bit already!

BillBrysonsBeard · 20/04/2016 16:07

My dad died of lung cancer, he was fine and then 3 months later he was gone. He looked like someone from Auschwitz at the end.. Awful for him and very painful for his loved ones to witness. Stay strong!

Costacoffeeplease · 20/04/2016 16:10

My friend's husband died last month, of mouth cancer, he was a heavy smoker. He was diagnosed at the beginning of Feb, had major surgery, lost most of his tongue and teeth, couldn't speak at all, came home 3 weeks later, was taken back into hospital after 3 days, and died 2 days later. He was 53

chemenger · 20/04/2016 16:12

Any of your non-smoking friends would be delighted to take them from you and bin them somewhere that you can't find in order to keep their new sweet smelling friend.

MrsJayy · 20/04/2016 16:14

You were probaby burning 50 quid a week anyway so bin the fags im a smoker im skint i smell my teeth are rank im killing myself i feel like a leper if i smoke in public the list is endless and you are none of these things now.

Tarrarra · 20/04/2016 16:15

I have been vaping for 6 months now. Gave up for Stoptober and wow do I feel better for it. It's hard, but so worth it. Use the money you have saved on fags to buy yourself a treat but BIN that pack NOW. Go straight out and stick them in a bin FAR AWAY.

The real incentive for me, is that every day, I have to watch my Mum (chain smoker for 40+ years) struggle with COPD, on oxygen 24 hours a day and unable to do much at all. It's not fun. She's given up now, and if she can do it, anyone can.

I won't pretend it's easy. I've found the vaping a great crutch and have reduced the nicotine intake to the 6mg. Hoping to be nicotine free for the end of the year and then stop vaping...

Keep going, you've done the hardest bit so don't cave in now!

madmother1 · 20/04/2016 16:15

Because it stinks, literally.
