Seventeen Loads of Washing... I'm not am I?

AIBU in the slightest? Seventeen (spelt out so you're sure it's not a typo). 17 loads of washing this week I have done and put away. (As well as working 72+ hours) I accept I am a little bit OCD about the sheets and towels being on a hot wash alone and that only white things go in the white wash but I do not understand how this household can make so much damn washing!?!!! These are all full loads.

AIBU to ask how many loads you do on an average week, if towels and bedding are done at least once a week and if 22 flannels are an average weeks usage in your household?? I probably am but please ...tell me they are not going to put "now we have no clean clothes to wear" on my gravestone?

There has to be an easier way than this... Surely?

I'm going to sound skanky now...

Nightshirts (tshirt nightie and button nightshirt) 1 x a week. If PJs then 2-3 times a week. No idea what intern sleeps in. Flatmate washes hers 2-3 times a week (those silky negligee things or shorts PJ sets).
Towels - use every day, dry on radiator, wash 1 x week, usually use hands to wash face but if flannels after every use. I use a sponge to wash in bath, gets soaked in rinsed every day. Replaced monthly.
Sheets, duvet and pillowcases wash 1 x a week unless sickness, then change every day, by ill if cold wash pillow cases every day, more severe sickness wash every day.
Table cloths don't use one every day, sometimes use during week, if using for dinner parties then wash after party - have about 1 x dinner party per week sometimes more.
Cat's basket bedding never wash, unless filthy, but if he sleeps on fleece on bed then wash as and when. He is very clean.

Underwear wash every use including socks, bras wear for 2 wears then change and wash, flatmate washes hers after every use.
Clothes during week are washed when dirty, so after 2-3 wears each.

Curtains and cushion covers washed or beaten every few months.
Bath and toilet mats, rotate 1 x week, wash after use. Have about 2 toilet mats, 6 x bath mats as use 2 x for bathroom.

Flatmate seems to wash clothes like me, after 2 wears maximum if something gets really dirty she puts it on to wash. Gym kits we wash after every use eg 2-3 times a week recently restarted gym. swimming costumes same if going (we go to Aquafit together 1 x a week).

Anything else?! Rarely dry clean. Use tumble drier or hanging airer to dry clothes or radiators. Intern ex student male washes everything after every wear it seems but also seems to change socks and underpants daily thank god!

AppleSetsSail · 17/04/2016 18:09

I would be very unhappy wearing recycled PJs.

FuckSanta · 17/04/2016 18:12

I'm still wearing the PJs I slept in last night and will probably go to bed in them tonight without so much as passing the shower

HildaOgdensMuriel · 17/04/2016 18:13

I notice I get through clothes double quick in warmer climates or in the very occasional warm spell in summer. Maybe living in a coldish house in the north of Britain means our clothes/ pjs last longer.

Gobbolinothewitchscat · 17/04/2016 18:16

There are 5 of us - 4 month old DD, DD2, DS3

I do 3 loads a day so 21 loads a week. Bit probably would be more if we didn't have a 9kg washing machine.

I change the sheets in our bed once a week. Children's cot sheets get changed at least once a day. Clean pyjamas once a day. Get through loads of towels. Baby is a puker so lots of changes there - plenty of bibs and muslins.

DH wears at least one set of scrubs a day

I'm quite happy with that amount. I'd rather have an unlimited supply of clean clothes/towels etc than wash less. DH agrees after being scared by his own mother's clatty habits and the fact that he only got one bath a week - he now has two showers a day at least so that racks the towels up

heron98 · 17/04/2016 18:17

Just me and DP here.

We do two loads most weeks - a normal one and then one at the weekend when we wash all our grubby cycling gear.

Bedding and towels are done about every 10 days.

Voteforpedr0 · 17/04/2016 18:17

Thing is though, you can smell the clothes of the people that are not washing them after each wear and it's so unpleasant.

HildaOgdensMuriel · 17/04/2016 18:20

But younger kids do not smell like adults let alone teens so nor do their clothes.

feelingmiffed · 17/04/2016 18:21

I probably average 7 loads a week - 2 uniform at weekend ( one dark, one white polos), and 4-5 other washes in the week. I have quite a big drum so can fit lots in!

Voteforpedr0 · 17/04/2016 18:23

Yes but you can still tell though just in case you thought you couldn't Wink

Actually, those heavily perfumed and completely unnecessary fabric conditioners, scent balls and ironing sprays are totally unpleasant.

HildaOgdensMuriel · 17/04/2016 18:25

It's the synthetic smell of conditioner that I find horrible!

pavlova3 · 17/04/2016 18:25

*Are you really "a bit OCD"? Do you have crippling and debilitating anxiety? If so, there is therapy available, if not, please don't use a serious illness to describe being a bit of a clean freak.

This.

hilda snap! Grin

OnlyTheWelshCanCwtch · 17/04/2016 18:28

Ive just put on my 9th load today. I do on average two a day, one darks, one towels (yes I'm a use them once heathen)
Today Ive washed all the bedding, fleece blankets, done two loads towels, one load work clothes of DH, two loads dark clothes,
Ive sorted out sons bedroom as well, and all the cuddly toys are going to get their 6monthly wash as weather forecast good for tomorrow. So that's two more loads and then theres probably enough for another load of towels as well.
So possibly 12 loads today, I reckon I do about 20 loads a week- and yes, majority of time its all tumble dried

HildaOgdensMuriel · 17/04/2016 18:29

It's the child equivalent of the "Poison" perfume wearer in the 1980s..

shutupandshop · 17/04/2016 18:31

Thats ridiculous. 6 here, 4 dcs between 3 and 14. A puppy and 2 cats. 3 oldest doe 2 plus spirts/clubs a week.

This week I have only washed uniforms snd doggy stuff. Dh did the rest which was notjing lije 17 loads at weekend.

CastielsClevererBetterSister · 17/04/2016 18:33

Up to 24 a week. Bedding, clothes, towels, pjs and other stuff . 2 adults, 3 children. Bedding goes in separately for each bed. Ours takes at least 2 due to the size.
DD has ASD and can swap clothes as the others stop 'feeling right'

ElinoristhenewEnid · 17/04/2016 18:35

7 loads a fortnight for me and dh that includes everything 6kg machine so not massive. Always make sure have full loads and very strict on what goes in each load - towels whites lights darks all wash separately with different powders hence why i wash fortnightly. When 2 dcs at home did 6-7 weekly. Refuse to wash for sake of it when dcs at home would often return clean clothes out out for wash unwashed!

Whatdoesaduckdo · 17/04/2016 18:38

I think it will be a cold day in hell when I ever see the bottom of mount washmore. With 6 children aged 17-4 it's never ending pyjamas are changed daily as are towels and school uniforms and my work out fit so on average 3 loads a day and 7 daily at the weekend to include all the bedding. Thankfully I invested in a machine with a 39 minute wash.

Dixie me too it's usually been outgrown by its owner anyway Grin

Wadingthroughsoup · 17/04/2016 18:44

We are a family of four and I do an average of 1 load a day. Our washing machine has a large capacity and I change towels and beds once a week.

CocktailQueen · 17/04/2016 18:45

A lot less than 17. All our clothes/whites/bed linen/towels go in a 40/30 mixed wash. Think of the planet! And no flannels.

But people are telling you here how much washing they do and you're saying you can't change anything, so what's the point of posting?

BoomBoomsCousin · 17/04/2016 18:46

We're not far off you (though we only get through about 6 flannels a week!) for a house of 2 adults and 2 primary school kids:
1 load school tops
1 load other uniform
4 loads bedding
2 loads towels
1 load whites
1 or 2 loads brights
1 or 2 loads dark
1 or 2 loads hand wash cycle
1 load swim kit (v. quick wash)

I sometimes skip a week of bedding or towels if I'm feeling lazy busy.
