To just want a cup of tea

So I know I probably am BU.

But whenever I go to a party, or family event or celebration. I'll get to about two hours in, and the thought hits 'I just want a cup of tea.'

Is this just me? I mean there'll be wine, beer and all sort of drink options and I'll be stood there just wanting a cup of tea, and it vaguely rankles that there isn't the option. Dh is the same, and theres always a conversation about how we want tea whenever we're at a party.

It happened again tonight, great party, dancing, lovely people and we're stood looking at the drinks feeling a twinge of disapointment that there isn't a tea pot.

To be honest, I'm just wondering if anyone else does this.

I reckon there are masses and masses of people who'd prefer a cup of tea after a few hours of drinking/partying. Loads just hide it, cos it's not the done thing, especially if you're young.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 16/04/2016 22:35

I will always have water or tea given the choice! People rattle off a long list of alcoholic drinks and I'll sheepishly say "could I just have a cup of tea please?!" I know it's a bit more of a faff than pouring a glass of something, so I do feel like a pain in the bum, but sometimes only tea will do.

If DP and I ever get married I'm thinking a nice afternoon tea party with lovely cakes and meringues etc rather than dinner, then home to watch TV instead of drunken dancing!

EllaHen · 16/04/2016 22:36

Nothing nicer than a cup of tea after a few drinks.

PreAdvent13610 · 16/04/2016 22:39

tribble maybe you are in the wrong family.
It is perfectly standard practice in my family to have a cup of tea in one hand and a glass of red wine in the other.
There used to be a pub down the road from us that had a kettle and tea making stuff on one of the windowsills. You just helped yourself and put a donation in the tin.

IHaveBrilloHair · 16/04/2016 22:42

This is me too, I love a nice cup of tea.

Owllady · 16/04/2016 22:44

I always make people hot drinks if they prefer

NapQueen · 16/04/2016 22:44

I love a cup of tea too. Sometimes dh and I will have a nice dinner and a bottle of something, then it gets to 10pm and I make a cup of tea and take it to bed and drink in the dark as the toddler is still in our room.

Stealth brews.

MillieMoodle · 16/04/2016 22:50

I'm definitely a cup of tea kinda girl! Even when I was on my late teens/early twenties and used to go out clubbing, I always had a cup of tea when I got in before going to bed. And my closest friends are the same. So YANBU!

Ilovetorrentialrain · 16/04/2016 22:53

Also first task when checking into a hotel. Go to room, put kettle on.

PansOnFire · 16/04/2016 22:54

Ah this is music to my ears! I've asked for a cup of tea quite a few times on nights out. Everyone thinks I'm weird, I don't drink alcohol and about half way through a night out I always want tea. Most of my friends refuse to get me one as part of a round but once I've got one other people follow suit.

Wheresthattomoibabber · 16/04/2016 22:54

I order tea in the pub if I want one. No shame.

Sallystyle · 16/04/2016 22:56

I had my first cup of tea yesterday in a long long time. Only because a colleague kindly made me one without realising I don't normally drink it. I think it will be many years until I have another one.

However, I take pepsi max with me when I visit family for dinner or go to a party that doesn't have a bar.

Lightbulbon · 16/04/2016 22:57

I don't see why a caffeine addiction is any more socially acceptable than any other addiction.

Wheresthattomoibabber · 16/04/2016 22:58

I drink decaff tea.

MattDillonsPants · 16/04/2016 23:09

I'm the same OP. I don't or can't drink a lot of alcohol and know it so usually get bored and want tea. I have mates the same and we often boil the kettle halfway through a party!

BikeRunSki · 16/04/2016 23:17

YANBU

The best wedding reception I ever went to was in a church. Group photos straight away, then tea and cake served in the church hall while family photos taken (we are not family). Awesome.

Ilovetorrentialrain · 16/04/2016 23:20

Does anyone want one now? Brew How do you take yours? Mine's white but with only a drop of milk. No sugar.

Puzzledandpissedoff · 16/04/2016 23:28

That's fine if there IS a blasted kettle ... too many places (especially in the USA) have only coffee making machines these days

So now I always pack one of these: www.ebay.co.uk/itm/TRAVEL-HEATER-ELEMENT-WATER-COFFEE-IMMERSION-500w-220V-/270665801345

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 16/04/2016 23:33

My DP tried to buy a kettle in the US as his hotel room didn't have one. He asked in Walmart and the lady thought he'd asked for a cat tool or something, couldn't understand him! Eventually she twigged "oh a TEA kettle!" Grin

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 16/04/2016 23:35

Oh, and when my tea addiction starts to interfere with my ability to drive, work and take care of my DCs and costs more than about 10p a day, I'll be happy to put it on a par with other addictions Smile

Artandco · 17/04/2016 08:08

We don't even have a kettle at home..

LavenderRains · 17/04/2016 13:38

I love a builders tea. Yorkshire tea bags, splash of milk and no sugar.......bliss

Ninjagogo · 17/04/2016 13:44

Sounds lovely MarkRuffaloCrumble tea was available at our wedding party, sadly it tasted like ditch water!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 22/04/2016 00:03

Oh my gosh. Had to stop drinking tea for 24 hours for a blood test I had (no caffeine allowed).

I ended up with the migraine from hell, feeling sick, on the loo all night and throwing up. It would seem that I am indeed addicted to tea! I thought it was a fairly harmless addiction, but it appears that without it I'm a bit of a mess Shock

All this tea-love with visions of lovely crockery and tea parties is all a sham - it's evil Grin

Tried not to give in and seriously considered giving it up, having a lady gone through detox cold turkey, but ended up at 4 am brewing up....and bam, headache went!

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 22/04/2016 00:03

Already, not a lady!
