My dP and the cat

My dp talks to the cat contestant like a baby. It is my cat i got 7 years before I met dp. Dp gives the cat more affection that she does me. I want to scream and shoot when she does it, ot happens all day and night . She doesn't talk to my six year old ds like that. I literally wake up with her doing this and she talks through films calling the cat a " squidgy meow" and " a little baby" and lots of silly names in high pitched voice.

We have had rows because I get pushed out of my pwn bed because the cat sleeps under the covers she chooses to turn away from me to cuddle the cat.

Aibu for wanting to say something? I think she might think I'm bring controlling and it really isn't a big deal but it is driving me up the wall!

Aibu?

Very normal behaviour for her to talk to the cat like that. I do it all the time to mine Smile

If she loves her cat, you'll just have to get used to it or it may turn into a 'you or the cat ' scenario, and that might end badly for you!

It might be normal to talk to your pets and fuss them, but it's still rude to talk through a film because you're more interested in the cat than spending time with your partner!

Or is it funny because it's a cat? I bet if the DP was sitting talking on the phone people would be saying it was rude, so why is it different because she's yabbering to a cat?

I talk to my cats all the time, but not at the expense of spending quality time with DP!

Sometimes cats just disappear. Wake up one say and they've decided to move on. Sad but it happens.

I don't like people talking through films or TV when I specifically want to watch it but in some families chatting while watching is standard behaviour.

You are clearly unhappy now, so why are you even thinking of moving in together Confused - I feel sorry for your young child and the cat.

Are you suggesting he gets rid of the cat? On the quiet?!
