To expect a refund?

Dd was unable to go on a school residential trip due to illness. She was taken ill the morning of the trip and the school called me to collect her and told me I had to take her home. I was told there and then I could expect a full refund.

I have been chasing this refund for a month. Today I've been contacted about an insurance claim they are putting in asking the details of her illness.

I've told the school they should give me the refund regardless of the claim. I was told I was going to get one, now they are saying they aren't sure if they would get the money back from the insurance.

Surely that bit isn't my problem? The school insisted she couldn't go on the trip.

I think you should get a refund yes, the school should have told you to take your did to the doctors. However a cold is probably not classed as serious enough for insurance to pay out so the school should.
Many schools subsides school trips with pupil premium money.
Op has your dd recived free school dinner in the last six years? If so ask if they can refund out of pp money.

Yes she has, all three of my children received it.

I would ask the school if they are able to at least partial refund out of pp money then.

The more I think about this, the more I think that it is because the insurers have told the school there were insufficient grounds for withdrawing your child from the trip.

That means the Head made a bad call/didn't follow correct procedure.

That is not a good reason for you not being refunded.

I think you need to wait and the progress the complaint if necessary.

Seriously, where the fuck do you think school is going to pull 300 pounds out of? They don't have a pool of money laying around to call on just because a sick kid couldn't go on a school trip.

Then the HT shouldnt have promised a refund. He certainly should have checked with the insurers what proof would be required and what the likelihood would be of a refund from them. They made a judgement call and it was wrong, the OP should not have to forfeit £300 because they made a mistake.

"Seriously, where the fuck do you think school is going to pull 300 pounds out of? They don't have a pool of money laying around to call on just because a sick kid couldn't go on a school trip."

Are you claiming a school would not be able to access £300 to make a payment? If so they have serious control and governance issues and that's completely unrelated to the OPs situation
