Hmm

According to H.

He is better at maths and spatial awareness as well as making/fixing things.

I am better at writing / languages and that kind of thing my empathy/sensitivity/patience is also higher than his.

Still his comment has been rankling all day Angry.

It's the ratio of brain size to body weight (or something like that) that matters in evolutionary terms though. If he weighs a lot more than you he will have a worse ratio Grin

AugustaFinkNottle · 13/04/2016 16:23

Point out to him that the human brain is about 3.3 lb, whereas an elephant's brain is around 11 lb, and ask if that means that elephants are more than three times as clever as him.

GeekLove · 13/04/2016 16:37

Oliver Cromwell had a cranial capacity of 2200 cm3, while the Nobel Laureate Anatole Smith had a cranial capacity of 1096 cm3. Think of that what you will...

BurningBright · 13/04/2016 16:40

His brain may well be bigger.

Sounds like it's denser too.

DH says this, mainly because I have a smaller head and hats from crackers only stay up because I wear glasses. I say his brain is more spongy whereas my brain is more concentrated Grin

bettyberry · 13/04/2016 16:51

Tell him to stick his head in a bucket of water to see how much it displaces and he needs to hold it there a while to get an accurate measurement. Grin

TinySombrero · 13/04/2016 16:52

Heard a doctor on TV say bigger head than average means thick skull rather than larger brain cavity. Which was sad news as I have a big head!

Charlesroi · 13/04/2016 17:03

My brain is smaller than his.

I'm better at maths and spatial awareness as well as making/fixing things My bugger couldn't read a road atlas to save his life (OS map with a compass, or the tent-pitching conundrum - lecture time for me).
We laugh about it, as I fantasise about donating his still breathing body to science and price up cheap shovels Grin

spirallinganxiety · 13/04/2016 17:14

Should have said, sorry, he meant that he is cleverer than me. Was in response to something I had said which annoyed him - will say more latr as am walking home at the moment. But yes, it was a putdown.

I watched a good thing on to about female v male brains. Female brains are lighter but work more efficiently. Mens brains are better suited to spaciak awareness due to having to be the hunter back at the dawn of mankind, they can see a picture and turn it around in their heads whilst you see woman turning maps around to be able to understand it.

Women can multi-task more easily as they used to stay behind looking after (sometimes several) children whilst doing anything else that was required. As we evolve though these traits are changing.

MrsTerryPratchett · 13/04/2016 17:47

That is unscientific bullshit Fluffy. Sounds good but is nonsense.

IceBeing · 13/04/2016 17:57

presumably men are on average better at spatial things because they are encouraged to play differently to girls from birth essentially. I would imagine playing building games, ball games and with toys with wheels is all better for developing spatial awareness than dressing up dolls Sad.

I, on the other hand, am the bomb at spatial awareness...having been cruelly brought up playing with lego and trains against the natural inclination of my supposedly female brain

"He is left brained, you are right brained - nothing to do with size."

Is he?

The American Duggar family have huge heads and don't believe in Dinosaurs.

"My brain is bigger than yours"
"Im not surprised, brains are 60% fat" Grin

KaosReigns · 14/04/2016 11:00

YANBU does he often say things like that to you?

Rankled? I'd be seriously pissed off, and expect a full, sincere, apology.

DP tells me on a weekly basis that I'm smarter than him, which is bull, but the only acceptable comment on another person (especially a partners) intelligence. He does give me a Hmm look when I ask him to do basic maths for me, such as "hey babe, whats 7x7 again?" but would never call me dumb, just lazy.
