To feel upset

DH rang his dad earlier and came off the call really upset.FIL is in his seventies still very active but not great with technology.
He answered the phone and said oh no it's (husbands name) before putting the phone to his ear and greeting DH.
DH ended up in tears to me and I felt terrible for him.
I told him to call his dad back and tell him that what he had heard had upset DH but he refused which is fine as its his side of the family.

I can talk a lot...and I live a distance from my parents. I have phoned up and heard them arguing -and my sister when she was there - about who had to speak to me- noone wanted to ...and it has happened more than once...it doesn't bother me .
I kind of know where they are coming from. Just about to settle down to watching something you have been looking forward to on tv, with a hot drink etc etc and then you have to interact with someone (anyone)...at least if they come to the door you could (maybe) pretend not to be in....
That's the thing with a phone - you kind of have to answer it in case it is important but you might not feel like a chat ...

I now screen my calls with an answerphone (too many sales calls) and I have ignored calls from my parents cos I can't be arsed having a chat just then ....nothing personal.
I think there must be more going on for your DH to react like that over something so minor......
