That's my point need . I can't see how anyone rationally would look at one of those and think - how gorgeous! How needy! I want one! Just shows the huge power of evolution, biology and hormones.

It's been proved that we instinctively become maternal towards small creatures with big eyes. It's why we like pandas so much

I thought that babies have big eyes because our eyeballs are the one that that doesn't grow.

New born animals other than humans are more attractive generally. Think of a tiny baby elephant. They have small eyes but in my view so much more endearing than a human infant.

I think you'll find OP that my babies were the exception to this rule and were/ are in fact the two most beautiful creatures ever to have existed!

(But yes, most newborns are a bit squished and funny looking. To be fair though, no one would look their best after being kept in fluid for 9 months, dragged through a birth canal and then being thrust in to a new , bright and noisy world!)

Big eyes? Never seen big eyes on a newborn. Besides, they mainly sleep!

Babies tend to look much prettier after a day or two. It's hard to look your best on TV when you've just squeezed through the birth canal and are covered in vernix and amniotic fluid and blood.

I daresay a lamb, calf or elephant that's just a few minutes old looks a bit unattractive when compared to a slightly older one too.

I get what you mean. Though after watching OBEM I was really surprised when my daughter was born and she wasn't covered in vernix and blood. She did have a little cone head because of the ventouse though.

Dd1 was a very pretty newborn, dd2 was not. Dd1 remains the prettier of the 2 however dd2 remains in the bald, alien head stage of life that my children seem to inhabit for the first 3.5 years of life.

I'd argue that newborn alpacas are far superior to calfs or lambs.

Well I don't normally watch it but I did tonight. Lovely little squidgy babies. Made me want to give birth again, loved that bit.
