To ask how you cheer yourself up?

I'm feeling a bit low today. This rarely happens and there is nothing really specific that has made me feel this way although I think I am just rather tired from looking after DS and feeling as though my career isn't where it should be.

I know I have a lot to be grateful for and I know I need to snap out of this ridiculous mood as I don't like to feel so low when looking after DS, I find myself more snappy and less patient.

AIBU to ask what little things you do to give your mood a boost? Thank you.

A hot bath with a new book and maybe a g&t!

kennyp · 12/04/2016 21:39

i go to bed
steam clean the kitchen
go to bed some more
watch tv
go to bed before 830pm and watch youtube (jimmy kimmel or ellen or puppies yawning etc)

hope you feel cheerier soon

Riversiderunner · 12/04/2016 21:50

Running is the best mood booster there is. And I say that as someone who used to cheer themselves up with several bags of Monster Munch.

Good music, a good book, and an early night.

And I love the post upthread about taking a big bag of clothes to the charity shop - totally get that. Throwing anything away is an instant mood-booster!

A 12 hour sleep. Always feel brand new after one.

Hassled · 12/04/2016 21:53

Comfort reading - in my case it's Jane Austen. She always cheers me up. But rereading something you're very familiar with and know you love is always soothing.

And increasingly Youtube. Youtube knows me better than I know myself now - I bloody love those algorithms that suggest things for me. I can waste hours.

Now this may sound like an odd suggestion, but... fake a laughing fit. Seriously. If you're by yourself, try to remember something that tickled you or imagine a friend saying something hilarious, and... laugh. It'll feel weird at first, but your body will start to respond and release all the happy chemicals you get when you really laugh, and you'll feel better. Trust me- it works!

Failing that, I have a Pinterest board of stuff that makes me laugh, which I also sometimes look at if I'm feeling glum.

groovergirl · 13/04/2016 03:45

I watch Peter Sellers in The Party or The Return of the Pink Panther. Insanely funny and reassuringly glamorous.

JC23 · 13/04/2016 03:49

Listening to music and singing loudly along

Smileandwaveboys · 13/04/2016 07:47

I do these things when I'm a bit down or if I've had a stressful day at work.

Going for a walk with earphones in helps me. Clears my head. I also find this helps when I've had to spend a long time with lots of people, I need to recharge.

Reading. I don't read anywhere near as often as I used to, as too busy. So if I'm down, curling up with a well worn favourite makes me feel better.

A long, hot bath, again with music on.

As a pp said, funny videos on you tube or memes on Pinterest.

I also find doing my nails very relaxing. It's the routine I think. It cheers me at work when I see my lovely nails on the keyboard despite rest of me looking awful Smile

I love getting an early night in a freshly made bed with new sheets, bliss

ladedah · 14/04/2016 00:29

I've just written out a list of these, thinking I'll put them on small pieces of paper, fold and mix them up then pick one/a few to try tomorrow. I'd been doing well on anti depressants but feeling low the last few days - really hoping it's just a blip/general "meh"-ness but was scary realising this is how I used to feel all the time and don't want it to come back Confused A lot of things mentioned here I'd enjoy anyway but got some new ideas, so thankyou!
