DH grilled boneless chicken thighs wrapped in bacon, I assumed he'd cooked them properly! We added them to buffet.

At the end of the night hostess gave us a plate of leftovers to take home including some of DH's chicken (which everyone ate apart from 4 veggies).

This morning I ate one, it seemed fine, I bit into another and it was raw! As in totally raw Shock
I was so disgusted I was sick.

I'm so worried we're all going to get ill! Should I call the others and tell them? DH thinks it must have been on the edge of the tray and says the others were fine Hmm I'm so angry I can barely look at him. I'm OCD about food safety and always over-cook meat, he thinks I'm overreacting. Am I?

One of our friends was feeding the chicken to her toddler!

What should I do?

Keep your fingers crossed and be optimistic.

It was a silly thing for your DH to do. He should have knifed the outer chickens to check

I think it's fine to say you are 'a bit OCD' about something and I say that as someone who has had severe debilitating OCD that required medication for 5years (plus years of CBT as it took me 45mins just to leave the house each day due to excessive checking and hand washing!)

I still have traces of OCD. And I use the phrase 'I'm a bit OCD about hand washing/shoes indoors/locking windows/food hygiene/switching off appliances/unplugging things/checking door is locked etc etc. I could go on. I use the term when explaining my neurotic behaviour eg when I have just unplugged my friend's toaster or presented visitors with guest slippers or brought my own pillow case and sheet to a hotel. I find people are more understanding when they realise my behaviour is OCD/anxiety-driven rather than just bizarre habits!

Also many people have obsessive-compulsive behaviours without having full blown OCD. It is only diagnosed as OCD if you seek help, ie when it interferes with your life so much you seek treatment.

One of my friends always says he is 'OCD about symmetry' and rearranges things when out, otherwise he feels anxious!

Inland- I agree, plenty of people say they're 'depressed' and there's varying degrees of depression from anything from needing to be sectioned to just have a really crap day.

Bears - I presume when you say a "formerly recognised" condition, you mean "formally recognised"?

"Formerly" means previously; "formally" means officially.

Just sayin' Grin

InlandTiger - as a fellow OCD sufferer, I respect your opinion but I do find it offensive when non-sufferers use the term 'a bit OCD' to explain why they like things clean. They don't get it and it trivialises the debilitating anxiety at the core of OCD. It has meant that I have struggled at times to be taken seriously. When my OCD has been particularly bad, it's been difficult to be seen as anything other than a drama queen when nothing could be further from the truth.

Being "a bit ocd" is seen as a badge of honour in a way any other mental illness certainly wouldn't

Yes Stealth, it is, and that's completely maddening. People who say that really have no idea of the day to day realities of living with OCD.

At my worst I was getting approx 3-4 hours of sleep a night because my checks and routines were taking so long I was regularly not able to lay down to sleep until the early hours.

Im sure everyone will be fine....

OCD is a serious mental health disorder having OCD tendencies around food and cleanliness is a euphemism for being precious.

The chicken might have been a bit underdone. At a bring and share buffet so might a lot of other things, or a knife that sliced raw meat might has gone on to butter bread without a proper wipe.

It's daft to grill back wrapped chicken breasts anyway. Should have been covered with foil and put in the oven with foil removed for the last 5-7 minutes to brown the bacon.

Chalk jt up to experience op and meanwhile keep schtum. No need to worry people and even I they are ill, it might not be from your chicken.

Another person with OCD who hates the term 'a bit OCD'

I don't mind people saying they are a bit obsessive, but please don't undermine a serious condition.

With regards to chicken, I am so worried about it I rarely eat it, I won't eat it in pre packed sandwiches and salads. I don't eat it when I eat out either.

If I cook it I have to wash my hands and the sink, the floor, and any cutlery etc it may have touched as I am that worried about contamination.

It's exhausting.

OP I hope no one gets ill and it was just unfortunate you got a raw bit.

Is this a joke? This really, really isn't true. 65% of the fresh chicken sold in the UK in 2007-8 was contaminated with campylobacter.

I say i am ocd around it as i am.
If i think it looks even slightly odd i will throw my whole meal in the bin.
I have ocd in other aspects in my life so i think i can say i am ocd seeing as it controls a lot if my life.
