To eat these potatoes?

There may be a tiny little bit of mouldy stuff on the sprouty bits but they're not soft or green inside. Can I eat them? Will I die horribly?

Meh! That's what normal potatoes looked like when I was growing up Grin

My Dad used to buy a huge sack from the local farm and by the time you got midway through, they all looked like that.

Eat them.

mrsjskelton · 05/04/2016 21:06

My potatoes always look like this!!

winchester1 · 05/04/2016 21:07

We grow our own potatoes and they look fine to me.

But maybe think a bit more about where to store them next time.

londonrach · 05/04/2016 21:07

Thats what potatoes look like! If green, soft throw them

Squiff85 · 05/04/2016 21:08

Thats normal to me!

WallToWallBastards · 05/04/2016 21:09

I thought so! My grandad does not believe in use by dates or binning anything so I'm sure I've eaten much worse than that. I always cut the sprouty bits out but had a wobble about the mould.

I do I. Just cut all the sprouty things off and don't tell dhGrin

WallToWallBastards · 05/04/2016 21:24

It'll go lovely with my slightly out of date reduced salad and mayo that's been out of the fridge for a few days but hasn't killed me yet Grin

x2boys · 05/04/2016 21:32

It will dh doesn't know half of what he eats is slightly out of date he would be horrified Grin

Jelliebabe1 · 05/04/2016 21:44

Yep eat them! There was a potato advert recently that said "you don't have to throw me outty even if I go sprouty!". Lol I think it was from love food hate waste.

gingerboy1912 · 05/04/2016 21:46

Yep that's what my spuds look like most of the time.

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 06/04/2016 00:29

This week, we've eaten soft potatoes with 10 inch stalks on them that were harvested about 6 months ago.

I won't eat green ones, but otherwise not very fussy!

DiscoDancer · 06/04/2016 00:37

Why shouldn't you eat green potatoes? might have cooked some on Sunday because I couldn't be arsed to nip to the shops Shock

FirstWeTakeManhattan · 06/04/2016 01:03

Don't worry Disco, you'll be fine. I often chop off the green bits, but not all. You'd know by now if they'd disagreed with you Grin

acasualobserver · 06/04/2016 07:04

Why shouldn't you eat green potatoes?

The green parts are poisonous. I believe, in sufficient quantities, they could, theoretically, kill you. However, a vigorous peeling is usually enough to put you out of danger.

winchester1 · 06/04/2016 20:38

You have to eat quite a lot of green bits for it to be a problem though.

I can't even touch a sprouty potato Shock

scribblegirl · 06/04/2016 21:55

I think green potatoes are kind of like daddy long legses - poisonous, but you'd need so much/many to overwhelm a human that it's practically negligible Wink

DiscoDancer · 06/04/2016 23:32

Daddy long legs are poisonous? Since when?!?! Shock

imwithspud · 06/04/2016 23:33

I would eat them provided they're not squidgy. Once they become soft they're past it imo.

Canyouforgiveher · 06/04/2016 23:36

normal looking potato. just peel it.

Does anyone know anyone at all - even someone's aunt's friend - who has been poisoned from eating green potatoes?

scribblegirl · 07/04/2016 16:26

Sorry Disco - googled it just now and it appears to be a myth. False alarm!!
