Neighbours cat

Genuine aibu, as I have yet to get home and do anything.

We have a problem with a neighbourhood cat, which hangs about our back yard and terrifies our cats. Not much I can do about that.

A couple of times it has got into our house, most notable this morning where it chased our cats upstairs, made giant messes everywhere (my beautiful wine glasses!) And bit me quite badly when I tried to get it out.

I want to find out whose cat it is and request they keep it inside overnight.

However it gets in through a small kitchen window I like to leave open to air the house, otherwise the kitchen gets quite damo and stuffy.

Aibu to ask them to keep their cat inside when I could also solve this problem by closing my window?

Please don't throw oil or anything similar over it (not that I think you would OP, you sound more reasonable than that).

Cats clean themselves with their tongues and a cat could die from ingesting oil or similar chemicals.

I have used a Supersoaker water pistol to drive a cat out of my garden and away from my two timid tiny cats. Had to 'get' it about 3 - 4 times before it got the message. MAybe that would work here?

Chemicals?Confused We are on the same page here right? I'm talking cooking oil. Not motor oil.

YABU. You want for the owners to keep their cat in and everything that goes with it (putting litter tray down, coping with cat trying to scratch out) because you want to keep your window open? Buy a dehumidifier!!

Alexa444 · 04/04/2016 21:35

They chose to have a cat. They can deal with the litter tray and scratching at night. You own an animal, you are responsible for it's behaviour. OP has every right to have a window open without someone's cat coming in.

Initially, I thought this was about the cat we rescued. But he is frightened of his own shadow.
He won't even come in to the house.

I second the water pistol. They don't like it, but it won't harm them.

Please ignore the pp who said to throw cooking oil on the cat Confused

We got a water pistol to deal with a local cat that was upsetting our cats and he/she never shows his face now!

yanbu
but you will not achive anything.

can you put netting over the window when open?
I feel your pain, neighbours cat likes to come in through tilted windows.

OneMagnumisneverenough · 04/04/2016 22:24

If you don't actually know its a neighbours cat (or they don't know you know it's their cat) then catch the bastard and take it to the shelter - not the local one, drive to the next town or city. They'll neuter it before rehoming it. Job done - just don't let anyone see you.
