is my daughter autistic?

How do I find out?

She's bright and loving but can't seem to process her emotions. She'll suddenly - very suddenly - become frustrated and angry and lash out (usually at me). She's 8 and displaying more and more anxious behaviors which she is increasingly unable to control in public. At school she's extremely hard working and exacting with v high expectations of her and other's behaviour.

She's also quite literal and always wants to know the 'truth', but she has friends.... yet I sometimes get the impression that she takes the leaf from them. Her behaviour changes depending on who she is currently around. But then isn't that true of all kids her age?

The thing is I suspect there's some undetected autism in her dad and her grandad... Hmm

Do any of you have experience of having an autism diagnosis for a daughter?

Look up the triad of impairment... See if she fits .

My dd was diagnosed with aspergers at 18. She had had no problems at school at all until things became more complicated when she turned 8/9. But she coped and I put it down to the other kids, girls particularly, not being very nice.

If you think she's struggling, go to your gp and see if you can get a referral to CAMHS.

Dd's twin has severe autism. I think my dad probably had Aspergers. I'm probably on the spectrum.

where I live you'd ask for a PCAMHS referral, and also talk to the SENCO at your DD's school.

Your GP should also be able help.

Go to both with examples!

Sounds like Aspergers. I grew up with undiagnosed ASD and wouldn't recommend it.

proudas I'm sorry to hear that... How do you think am earlier diagnosis would have helped you?

To be honest, it's as much for me as for her. I'm getting a lot of judgement about her and it's breaking my heart.
