page 25 dept of health Equality Assessment of new contract for doctors. ADMITS DISCRIMINATION TO WOMEN! Am Raging! Backwards. Out of touch! Mumsnetters please show your feelings.

"Any indirect adverse effect on women is a proportionate means of achieving a legitimate aim. Whilst this may disadvantage lone parents (who are disproportionately female) due to the increased cost of paid childcare in the evenings and weekend, in some cases this may actually benefit other women, for example where individuals have partners, it may be easier to make informal, unpaid childcare arrangements in the evenings and weekends than it is during the week due to the increased availability of partners and wider family networks at weekends and in the evenings"

.... and this is why they should move. Relocating to NZ was the best thing for me and my family after 10 years of NHS shift work nearly broke it beyond repair.

Good point Hic, and I am glad you are happier.

2 medics on shift patterns working the new rotas are could potentially end up spending just a couple of days a month together. Great for the kids too!!

I would argue that the stressful nature of the job , the inability to put down roots / form local support networks etc makes down time with a listening partner and relaxation with family even more important to prevent burnout.

Look at the "doctors of the nhs" Facebook page for some beautifully written pieces about the sometimes harrowing side of the job.

Meh, I don't really feel outraged about the sexism here.

There has been so much hoopla about how this is discrimination against women, so they've addressed that iasue and giving another viewpoint on how it affects the childcare responsibilities that many women have. And because they've included the word "women" everyone is up in arms.

YANBU. And this is going to disproprotionately hit the specialities with higher proportions of females. Paediatrics already has a major recruitment crisis, and this will make it so much worse. More units will have to close, and that is going to be a nightmare for children and families.

Have they really addressed the issue, or are they just claiming they have by quoting a standard legal phrase?

Andrewofgg · 02/04/2016 06:05

Itinerary In such fairness as they deserve unless the matter is tested in litigation all they can do is quote the law and assert that they are on the healthy side of it. It's impossible to guess how it would turn out if it were litigated and taken to appeal.

WI don't think this government care at all about how any of their policies impact on families. They just want all of us to work harder for less financial reward in order to keep their billionaire corporate friends happy.

Eustace2016 · 11/04/2016 21:45

People may be interested in the legal action which may be started on the contract in general - see Government response.
