Long term lurker, first time poster, but we are trying to make a big decision! Title says it all really, DW and I are considering moving from where we live currently in South Wales before DD is school age. We don't have an amazing support network here, and our families live a few hours away already so nothing there is going to change! I'm a remote working freelancer and DW is a SAHM so we have the flexibility to do it, but with something like this it can still feel a bit like a punt. We're pretty much set on Glasgow having been there before and loved it, so it's not so much a case of asking for opinions on places to go, more just checking that this isn't a frankly crazy idea. I'd love to hear from other people who have done the wholesale relocation thing, because I'm struggling to think of any negatives but I also want to make sure we think this through properly!

Glasgow can be rough but its heart is in the right place. I was being verbally abused by a man and threatened on my bus once, another man knocked him on his arse and told him he was an animal for threatening a woman. He dragged him off by the neck and told me to get myself out of there while he taught him manners!

We live in Glasgow, and my dc go to the Gaelic school (previously lived in the Outer Hebrides. Cant recommend it highly enough but its pretty hard to get into these days, its very oversubscribed, and most dc there have been to gaelic nursery or speak gaelic at home (not great granny used to sing a couple of nursery rhymes in Gaelic).
It is fantastic though and I'd encourage anyone to try it if at all possible.

I'm from the East coast and studied in Edinburgh, but have lived in the West now for almost as long as the East and can't see us ever moving away now. We still go to the hebrides a lot, but we love our life here. Even though dh travels out of the city for work the dc (almost all teenagers now) and I like living in Glasgow. Its easy to get out to the coast or the countryside too.

I think you either 'get' Glasgow or you don't (like lots of places). The happiest years of my life were growing up and living there. I can't wait to go back. Glaswegians have a humour that's hard to explain and pretty much see the funny side of just about anything. I miss that.

Ah the Glesga banter. Very much gallows humour up here.

Hi everyone! We are moving from London to Glasgow in March I have two children (3 and 15 months) and am 6 months pregnant (HELP) LOL. we are leaning towards southside, polakshields has been recommended, but has anyone else got suggestions. I am desperate to find a nursery for my son... Pref with council funding... But I just need him in a good nursery so I would sacrifice the funding... Any advice would be amazing!!!! Please help.

@crabbitface- do you have any info on southside , we are looking to rent max budget £1000 a month. I'm desperately looking for nurseries !!

This is an old thread. You might be better starting your ownSmile

I made the opposite move.. Glasgow born and bred and moved to South Wales (The Gower). I love going back to visit Glasgow but don't think I'd move back.. but then I love living by the sea.

Glasgow is an amazing city but if I was moving back it would be to Giffnock, Clarkston area. Everyone seems to to be saying that schools aren't great but I've noticed that my children seem quite far behind their cousins in primary school and that seems to be borne out by the literacy and numeracy tables where Wales is the worst performing bit of the UK.

Just realised that this is an old thread, doh!
