AIBU?

To want a "I was brave" sticker for myself after having a steroid injection on my foot joint?

Today I've had a injection of steroids in the joint! It hurt, and it was very, very uncomfortable. I was terrified of the thing beforehand and spent the whole procedure breathing as if I was in labour, trying to keep calm...

After it ended my blood pressure fell and I felt weak, they offered me some water and after a few minutes I left, went to the toilet, put my head down so I wouldn't faint (I frequently have low blood pressure and do faint if I'm not careful).

I can't quite decide if I was a drama queen or if I was ok.

There was a nurse by my side all the time (she offered to hold my hand) so I suppose some people DO freak out and need to be restrained by the nurse?

Please, tell me an ultra sound guided injection in the foot is a bloody unpleasant thing and I was not being precious!

I've given birth twice with no epidural, and I still found the whole thing this morning, where the doctor moves the needle around to get in the right bit incredibly uncomfortable!

Maybe I should get both stickers: "I was brave" AND "Drama Queen". I can be both, right?

I had three on my spine. I quite liked it , but I am weird.
It did help with the pain I was already suffering.

My friend had this done and he said it hurt like a bitch. Friend in question is hard as nails and never complains, so you were definitely brave! I might have to have this in my shoulder. Not looking forward to that....

They didn't check my bp. I was shaking after, was horrible.

I had a steroid injection into my shoulder & it was waggled about a bit to hit the right spot.

I thought the tip of the needle was going to come out the other side.

I am 60+ & have had some pain in my life but that injection is not something I would ever want to have again.

I imagine a foot was just as sensitive - so you have 'Brave Soldier' badge from me.

Sorry Naoko - it doesn't last for long is all I can say & the moment the needle comes out you are out of pain.

I've had ones into various joint and ones into a muscle (bum). Of all the ones I've had, the x-ray/ultrasound guided ones into the foot were the most traumatic and painful. YANBU. and Flowers You were very brave!!

I had one in my foot, felt like they were injecting lightning, so painful. I reckon I deserve 2 stickers and a lolly for keeping my foot so still while the rest of me flailed about in screaming agony.

frankie the heel must hurt as hell too! Is it painful now? Hopefully you will be fine soon! (my foot won't heal completely, because after 2 years of pain and inflammation, there is a necrosis in the joint and the bone is all flattened and spiky and damaged... But I'm hopeful it will become pain free at least).

And no one checked my BP. I just know it was very low because I know how it feels, and I was completely lightheaded. Lately I get like this every time I'm scared. Humpf.

sparkles I was in a sitting position but I had a back rest. Without it I would probably fall from the bed!

naoko as magimedi said, it stops hurting the very moment it comes out of your skin! And not all of it is painful, just some bits (sorry if it's not the best encouragement!). And it doesn't last long. It will be fine! (and people say it's worth it). Just remember to breathe.

magimedi it's the waggling bit that is the worst!

I sympathise. 8 have had a steroid injection under my knee cap a couple of times or so now for arthritis. Very painful things!

Ouch yanbu.

I'll need a few stickers by the end of next week. I had fine needle aspiration on a cyst in my thyroid gland yesterday - sharp scratch says the consultant - sharp scratch my arse. To top it all off he says "I think I'll need a bigger needle".

I've got root planing on half of my teeth tomorrow - ooh and then a smear next Tuesday Grin oh and then root planing on the other half of my teeth the week after WineWineWine

Sanchar sorry but I'm just laughing picturing you with one absolutely still foot and the rest of the body flailing.

Ishall, it felt like my heel was exploding. Its very sore now and have called in sick for work on their advice. I'm glad I had someone with me, and I'm now resting at hers. My toes are numb but heel is still hurting. Am meant to be driving home later but only if I think I can safely do an emergency stop.

I had steroid injections in both elbows in the same appointment. It was uncomfortable to say the least. Cleared my arthritis up for 2 months and then it came rushing back. No more steroids for me

Yes, you deserve a sticker. The one in my arse hurt more than having the actual baby! I was dancing round clutching it with tears in my eyes then saw the funny side of it and started laughing and DH started too. Must have looked really weird! Well done everyone, you all did good Grin

frankie good that you had someone with you! I went by myself as DH had an important meeting at work, and he's usually useless for things like this anyway... He's bathing the DC as I MN though :)

My mum used to have these in her knee every six months and said it was the worst pain she'd ever felt. She used to say it was worse than the time she had a trapped sciatic nerve that subsequently snapped.

She used to say it was quite painful when the anaesthetic in the injection wears off bit not as bad at the initial injection.

We are all amazing. The things we do to get rid of pain. The anaesthetic is now wearing off though :(

Ishall my friend was pleased she was with me too, else I would have been stuck! Her hand didn't come off too well though, especially as I still had it in a death grip 5 mins after they had stopped.
They all laughed when I thanked them.

Well done sorry you found it tough. I had one in my knuckle that I was dreading but twas okay (did have anaesthetic in it first). My finger felt AMAZING by the next morning though! Here's a 🌟 for you now for bravery and here's to hopefully feeling a lot better really soon. Think I may need some on my knees next, and my elbow... Maybe my shoulder... Drat.

I think there's something wrong with me! I have to have multiple monthly steroid injections and they don't hurt, no more than a normal needle anyway, so a slight scratch. I got myself so worked up reading stories before my first one and nothing happened. Am I immune to steroid pain? Do I hold the secret?

I'm sorry you were in pain though. I guess I don't get a sticker Sad

YABU, I've had one in my spine for a slipped disc. I screamed then cried like a baby. The pain was worse than childbirth and breaking my ankle Shock
