I don't understand why some people pronounce this ''chrisht-chun'. Am I alone in this confusion?

I say it Chris-tee-an and I promise I'm not a panto baddie or Cliff Richard.

minatiae · 29/03/2016 02:35

That's how any American I've heard says it.

GreatFuckability · 29/03/2016 03:04

sukey /d/ is alveolar, /m/ and /b/ are labiodental, but yes you are completely correct its assimilation. And also accent based.
I would say chris-ti-un. And bas-ti-un.

You are correct....that's what I get for posting at 3am BlushGrin

People do know there is no 'correct' way to say a word? Just different accents/dialects/regional variations.

I just want to be clear we are all on the same page with this obvious statement as I am bewildered by the OP's bewilderment.

The word bilabial always sounded tremendously rude to my silly 18 year old self and equally silly chums Blush
