You don't send the younger sibling too

When you have a dc who is old enough to play out with their group of friends.

All us parents take it in turns to have the kids in for a pitstop lunch/drink/toilet break during the holidays and it usually works well. This weekend one child has been turning up with their much younger sibling saying their parents have gone out. I'm beginning to resent the parents of these children because the younger one doesn't have the maturity to not try and pick fights with their older sibling in other people's house and is frankly a whirling dervish. I can see the exasperation in the faces of the other kids that they also don't want the youngster around.

Aibu on this and if I'm not how do I broach it with the parents?

I have no useful advice, my kids aren't old enough for this to be an issue yet but YANBU. The parents are taking the piss if they're going out. You're effectively babysitting for them.

How old are the kids in question?

ConfuciousSayWhat · 28/03/2016 13:46

The older ones are 10/11 and the younger one is about 6/7

That's much too young, can't believe the parents are chucking them out to play and going out Confused. I'd have a word, these children are not your responsibility other than to pop by for sustenance now and then.

I think it also undermines the privilege the older one has earned in being old enough to play out with friends without adult supervision if they send the youngster with them.

I need to have words but not sure how without coming across as interfering

The parents sound dim or piss taking basically. I would simply say "I've noticed little X is getting left out to a large degree because the others are so much older...of course she wants to play with her older sibling but I'm afraid it's just not working...not for me anyway! Much too like hard work!" and then smile.

I'm slightly agog that the parents have gone out leaving two children to play out, without informing another adult! What if you were about to go out, or there was an emergency? I think that needs addressing.

Have the parents aranged something with another parent that you might not know about?
